Full Version: Problem with Python Alarm Siren

My girlfriend bought an Excel recently and it didn't have an alarm. We picked up a Python 700 cheap so I decided to install it myself.

It's taken a day and a half but everything seems to work so far except for the siren. It's the Revenger 515R with 4 wires (12v Constant, +Input from alarm, - input from alarm (not used) and earth.

A sheet that came with the siren said to hook the + siren output from the alarm to the + input. Having done that, if I switch the siren on with the key, it goes off constantly.
If I switch to the test setting the alarm goes off but much quieter. It will then emit chirps and alarm siren as if it works normally, but with the siren going off quietly in the background. I tried connecting just the alarm output wire to the red 12v wire but that did not work.

Does anyone know where the problem lies?

Thanks,
Dave

i assume by saying you hooked the alarm output wire to the red 12v wire, that the red 12v wire was not connected before?

which siren wires have you connected and to where?

I originally hooked it up as it instructed on the siren's sheet.

Red 12v Constant to battery (fused)
Black to earth
Violet + alarm input to alarm's + siren output

The manual says to hook the alarm's siren output to the "red wire of the Revenger siren", so I tried just having that connected to the Red 12v constant and the earth connected, that just made the siren go off constantly as before, but the test mode was much louder.

I have checked the earth and 12v constant connection and all seems well. The alarm does output to the siren when hooked to the siren + input.

I'm really frustrated and tempted to get a two wire siren!

I think i installed one of these or a similar model and i think it could be to do with turning the key the other way or something.
I remember having a similar (possibly same) problem, read the instructions again very carefully the info could be there. you said your instructions were on a sheet of paper, the siren i used had its instuctions on the box...

Well the sheet came in the box, I assumed it was a supplement/amendment to the main instructions.

The Python alarm instructions only mention a red wire and a black wire, while the siren has the 4 wires i mentioned above. I have tried both methods and neither make a diff. I think I have a similar siren in my own car (goes off when battery is disconnected).

I did turn the siren on before connecting it to the car and it went off, does it need to be reset or something? Could it simply be faulty?

The key doesn't seem to turn any other direction. It has OFF, ON, TEST.

I'm thinking of just setting up two peizo sirens, one under the bonnet and a quieter (although still loud) one in the car, so even if the main one is disabled, there is still a siren to ward off that dirty car theif.

Cheers for the help so far.

yeh.... i would think that because you have turned it on before connecting it to an alarm, it may think the battery has been disconnected?

what happens when you disarm the car with the siren going?

could possibly be faulty - double check wires with multimeter to make sure they are getting what they need. siren input should only have positive when alarm is triggered.

If all else fails, tell the place you bought it from about your problems and they should be able to help.

Most systems sold in the USA dont have battery back up siren hence the diagram you mentioned.

It does sound like you have wired it correctly but id suggest you check you 12 volt connection and your earth. The battery back up siren will sound if it loses either and it sounds like this could be your problem.

Cheers for the assistance, I have checked them but I will double check just in case.

Quadrophonic - if I disarm the system with the siren going it makes no difference.

I might also go back to the place of purchase and speak with them because they also do installs.

Hello,

I had the same problem with my alarm, then I realized it was me not turning the key on the switch far enough. I just read your other posts and it seems that what I have written below isn't the case. Another problem I had was my earth was loose once, and as I would drive along it would switch my car off and then I would start it again ( alarm switched off momentarily) so then I found and tightened my earth screws and hasn't happened.

I will leave whats written below just incase it helps anyone else smile.gif

On my key switch on the siren I had OFF/CONSTANTLY ON/ AND ACTIVE

SO for mine it went crazy when I would turn from OFF to constantly ON and I would think why is the alarm going off, but then I realized it had that one extra step.

Give it a shot it helped me out anyways smile.gif
