Hey guys ive just bought a Panasonic TH-42PX7A 42inch plasma and i was curious as to if its a bad idea to play the playstation on it.
ive looked up forums and some people are saying not to coz of image burn and other people are saying new plasma's these days dont have problems with image burn?
does anyone have any ideas?
cheers

you should be fine, just dont leave it on a pause screen for hours etc

Bad Ben
I have a Pioneer PDP428XDA plasma and I have no issues with image retention
and I play my PS2, XBOX 360 and PC through it.
My panel does have a pixel orbiter that helps prevent image retention but I don't know
about other brand panels.

cheers guys, its not so much the playback im more worried about sports games with the score or RPG's with the health bar etc in the bottom corners. they are constantly there and seems to be the same as pausing the screen for hours.
does anyone else have this same panel and had any issues?

You wont have any problem if you play say 2 hours at a time. Even if you get image retention it will go away after watching normal TV programs without water marks. Once you wear in a plasma it is becomes less likely to get image retention or burn in.

From experience I can say the latest model pioneers dont even get the slightest image retention, even with water marks. Plasmas have come along way, I would suggest you would be fine, just be cautious - you will notice image retention hours before burn in will occur, that will be your hint to stop playing for awhile wink.gif

if you really want to play it safe, don't play playstation on it for the first 200 hours

after that, it should be less of an issue

i have same screen, use it for ps3 its fine, latest plasma tech is unlikley to get burn in anless you leave it for days. the only thing i found is that on such a good size screen its hard on the eyes playnig ps2 games because of the pixel numbers cause a blurry type image with jaggered lines, you'll see what i mean

lol yeah i tried it and got sick of it after a while coz of the blurring and coz ps2 looks crap on a huge screen, might need to invest in a ps3 one day. was trying to play f1 2006 and its so f***ing fast on a huge screen that u cant judge braking and crap, its ridiculous, might have to chuck it on my crap tv lol

We have the same screen and we went out for the weekend and stupidly forgot to turn the the TV and Xbox off. Come back a couple of days later oh s**t! Quickly changed the chanel and to my surprise no image burn :| Thank god for advancements in technology lol.
