I have a n14 pulsar and was wondering what are some of the things i should do to prepare it for sound off use in street class

Sorin-Andrei
i'd say plenty of 0ga and a good battery/batteries for starters.
then get on the TL and do plenty of testing.
khorne
got 4 runs of 0ga and a 900cca battery, got all the gear it's more the little things most people about i want to know like like tighting up door latches so the car seals better things like that. but thanks for your comment

I'd just search. also nothing is as good as testing, seats folded forward, laying back, angle of back seat when folded, a/c on before testing to cool car down, then try a bit warmer.

Get over to www.termpro.com and search there for more stupid little things.

Stuff towels under your front seats. Call it 'storage'....

Hey I'd do anything for an extra .5. I've seen more gained from less though..

my advise with regards to door locking latches being moved in and out try it, it worked with my old suzuki to the point until the car got to loud and it lost from venting to much. but only do it to the drivers side. it works on that side i have found in the past. the passenger side being done will cost you db's

but yeah sometime it works sometimes it doesnt work.

plus try air vents or recycle or closed. it can some times gain if vents are open. the suzuki and misses pulsar did. .3dB gain by having them open. also which vents open feet dash or window can ulter or gain sometimes.

also passenger seat folded forward and slid all the way forward or slid back. theres a difference in the reading for forward and back. try different locations. do the same for the drivers seat.

theres a couple little things to try. but all and all it takes alot of testing to work out every little thing that works in one car. every car is different. what works say for one N14 pulsar may not work in someone elses exactly the same N14 pulsar. you just have to test test test

cheers billy

my main thing that i always did when i was competing - crank the air con and try to keep the cabin as cool as possible - i would drive with a/c going full bore to every event, even in the middle of winter.

rev the crap out of the car as you're driving into the lanes and try to rev the car right until you are ready to jump out and burp it. i always kept the car revved nice and high and wait for the other competitor to be ready before giving it one final big rev, switch off ignition mid-rev, jump out, give judges thumbs up that you're ready to roll, counter starts, burp til your score registers, then pause. if you have time, after your initial burp wait until right before the clock is about to stop (5 seconds left to go) and do another burp - i gained 0.1db in my second burp last year at MAS and it was enough to keep me in the running after matt's sub let go...

weather-seal under the lip of the sub to have a nice seal against the box, followed by duct-tape around the edge of the sub to seal any possible escapes around the sub. make the port as smooth as possible, i never got to fully smooth my ports or inside my boxes cos i was lazy, but smooth port all the way to the mouth is important.

i always kept vents closed and in my car seats at 90 degrees always worked best, but i only came to that conclusion after hours of sitting in the workshop, charge battery, burp, change something, charge battery, burp, change something, charge battery, burp etc etc. i kept notes of all my scores and every change made.

Just playing around today and put a crap sub and crap amp and the pulsar and tested it, got 131.2db then for craps and giggles i put it into a crap corolla ive got in the backyard and got 135.8db so if i was to retune the box to the corolla with all my good gear in it could i expect a jump in numbers around the same amount???
RAD82
You sure its just not a case of the box you used, matched the resonant frequency of the corolla better than the pulsar?
khorne
the sub was in a sealed box

Some cars are more suited to SPL, just the layout of them.

BTW your pb is identical to mine laugh.gif
