My Story of an addict.

For those who know me, probably don’t really know the extent of my addiction to the evil C. I took my first hit about 15 years ago, up to that point I guess I was living in a bubble and wasn’t keen on the effects. I first took it at school, the effects were incredible, I loved the quick action. I felt more alert and more active. The only trouble was I have a quite addictive personality that I wanted more and more, just to get going each day.

I became so addicted to the temptress that she was, it was so easy to score a hit when I needed it, I would take a hit the first time in the morning, then usually another hit around mid-afternoon. The effects on my body started to take its toll, I had become so addicted to it, that I couldn’t and wouldn’t go a day without at least a hit a day; I was doing it as often as I could.

My family started to become quite worried at the impacts on my personality and health, I tried going cold-turkey a couple of years back, I went through severe withdrawal symptoms, sadly I went back to temptress shortly-thereafter. I actually started on much higher dosages, and more stronger hits. I would be taking Lambo chasers (as we knew them) to continue the hit and the lasting effects.

This year has seen me making some chances in my life, I stopped smoking, began going to the gym, and I decided I had to get away from my addiction, I didn’t like what was happening to my body, I was getting heart palpations and shocking head-aches, I couldn’t sleep aswell.

I did some research on the net of what to expect would happen during my withdrawal. I dropped all my stash down the sink. I changed the situations that normally would lead to me taking a hit, normally I would drag myself out of bed and take a quick hit and then head to work. So, I now get up a half an hour earlier to avoid having to need a “pick-me-up”

So Wednesday this week, I officially stopped!! Thursday was a shocking day at work, I was so moody and angry. I had a shocking headache all day, I think I snapped at just about every one that day. Friday, found me feeling a little better, still had a nasty headache and dizzy spells. I almost took a hit on Friday afternoon, I found myself with my hand in my pocket and walking down to my normal dealer, I got half way down there.. I am pretty happy with myself and actually stopped, I turned around and went back to work. The craving did fortunately pass.

Saturday was another working day. I dove head-first into work, I made myself so busy I couldn’t afford to visit my enabler. For first time in a few days my headache had eased, the 2 litres of soda water a day I had been drinking to help flush my system, I think was finally working. I actually even went to bed last night and slept the entire night, no headache or night sweating or aches or pains.

So today is Sunday, and my addiction to temptress I think is slowing waning. I would love a hit right now, but I feel I have the will-power to not. Normally I would have been looking around the house to see if I had any stashed, in a cupboard or my favourite hiding spot under the staircase. No, cravings today!!!! Yah, finally.

So bye, bye to Caffeine, we had some great times and so nasty times. Soda water is a great way to hit a drink that is not boring. The split from Pepsi-Max and coffee has been hard, but I am determined I will not be addicted anymore. The withdrawals for me, have been nasty, but fortunately short lasting.

So by Thursday this week, I will have a week done. It will be longest term in over a decade where I haven’t had any caffeine. I must admit I have been surprised how many drinks, actually contain caff. One of my favourite drinks Mountain Dew has as more caffeine than Coke!! So no more of that.

So there’s my story.

Awesome stuff good.gif

It's not easy giving up (or even just cutting back) on the not so good for you things.

As part of my extensive dental treatment, I had to cut right back on the sugary gear, coke, lollies, blatantly sh.tty food etc

Now I mainly drink water if I'm having a softdrink or alcoholic beverage, it's coke zero or pepsi max and I try not to drink more than 2 a day (one with lunch and one for dinner, plus I've never drank tea or coffee, so that was easy tongue.gif)

I've had the odd can of coke, it now tastes like sh.it.

I wouldn't say I eat healthy, but I'm definately not eating as much utter crap, less takeaway food almost no lollies/chips etc

I'd even go as far as saying I feel alot better for it too. smile.gif

When I first started reading this thread, and atleast half way through it I thought you were referring to car audio addictions tongue.gif

From someone who was addicted to Coke a few years back (6 cans, one after the other, every night minimum :S ) It's worth it in the end, just become addicted to something more rewarding, and fullfilling, like car audio smile.gif

Ha Ha Teg, Excellent stuff m8. I feel you're pain as I used to go thru' the same routine every Xmas holiday or annual leave.
Now I have a glass of water with every coffee (actually Espresso, i work with Italians rolleyes.gif ) and I just drink water with lunch & anytime after mid-day.

It's amazing how much effect it has on me now. Even one coffee gets we wound up and shaky. If I have coffee anytime after even 10am, I can't sleep that night......

It's interesting how different things affect different people. I am not addicted to caffeine, but I enjoy the taste of some drinks which contain it. - I can easily drink tea with or without it. Decaf coffee tastes like burnt cardboard. Red Bull and other drinks I don't prefer, and even coke I'll only drink these days with bourbon or similar, preferring the orangey-sweetness of fanta or sunkist instead.

I used to drink up to 2 or 3 litres of coke per day, but that was when I had a younger man's thirst. Cordial is good, even better with soda water.

But I still like my coffee.

I dont think i could ever give up Pepsi Max. Its like my favourite drink ever tongue.gif lol. That said though, i dont live on the stuff, but can easily drink a couple of litres at any given moment.

I usually drink a heap of Water and Orange-Mango Juice (only the Just Juice brand), or Pepsi Max.
Sir-Psycho-Sexy
i read 3/4 of that storie thinking it was cocaine you were talking about, and it was kind of touching. lol

i find the taste of tea or coffee repulsing, coca-cola i drink probably 1 a fortnight or so.

i'm glad for you though, and best of luck with it
trism
I use to drink 8 bottles/cans of redbull a day, on top of about 2 litres of coke.

had to cut back on the redbull. i was sleeping about 2-3 hours a night

still drink a few litres of coke a day. cant stop.
RAD82
Used to drink 4-6 litres of Pepsi max a day, at one point i had 107 2ltr bottles stashed under my bed because they were on special for 99c ea.

No more pepsi max, but i do drink the odd diet coke. Mostly drink tea, but long hours at work recently have seen me necking down more coffee and red bull than i should.

And yeah what charger said, i thought you were talking about car audio til the end biggrin.gif

I was wondering which 'C' you were talking about too till about halway through! I used to drink a 1.25 Coke everyday at highschool and more when I started work but just went off it after awhile, I still drink coffee but don't get any withdrawals if I don't have it. Have to say though - giving up smoking after 15 years was very hard (cold turkey) but I'm so glad I did after 2 or more years off them. Glad you're off your C addiction smile.gif

I read this whilst drinking a double shot of dark maragogpe.
I avoid milk and sugar in my coffee - its bad for you tongue.gif

Nah good too hear you've been able to kick it.

Whilst I drink a fair amount of coffee I am not addicted, I can drop coffee when ever, ie today is the first time I've had coffee in about 2 weeks cause our coffee machine at work broke the pressure pump. But I was seeing a chick who as addicted to caffine when I was in yr 11. She would come into school angry as all crap (she was about 5'7" and all of about 35kgs so it was rather amusing to see.) till she got her morning coffee from the canteen. She'd have anything upto about 14 coffees during school hours, and when we went out it was always coke with what ever alcohol (normally vanilla vodka).

In our local paper there was an article on some lady who was drinking 30ltrs of coke a day. She lost 2 layers of stomach lining and had to have several ulcers attended to because of the acid in the coke.

I wonder how many people from WA and SA where iced coffee out sells coke get addicted to iced coffee...
Cide
I'm addicted to caffeine :-( i can't get through the day without my morning coffee (3 teaspoons of instant) or V Energy drink. i've tried, but i'm just too tired and then useless at work. plus i travel a lot with sport so with timezone changes and jet lag to get over coffee is my saviour whilst away competing.

My uncle is addicted to iced coffee. not sure how many a day he has but the empty cartons litter the back of his car. he quit drinking it once and lost 15kg, just from cutting out the iced coffe, nothing else. unfortunately he is back on it and once again a fatty.
~Sparkles~
ugh instant coffee. Man that stuff litterally gives me the shits.
ar3nbe
I too started thinking you were talking about the other "coke"

Giving up any addiction is hard, especially when the drug in question is so readily available. Many people just dont seem to realise just how addictive caffeine can be. Fortunality for me, I have never been addicted to the stuff. Sure I like a coffee hear and there, but, I can go days or weeks without one. I have also tried recently to avoid energy drinks (still have Jager bombs but), and try to limit my coke intake. If i want softdrink, i tend more towards Fanta, and Creaming Soda now.

That said, I am drinking a can of coke as we speak.

Another idea is to move towards tea, less caffeine than coffee. Or, even go to caffeine free teas like Fennel, Camomile etc. They are quite nice with a bit of honey.

Again, congrats for giving it up. Remember, the hardest part is now over biggrin.gif
Stooge007
i didn't think the Mountain Dew we got here in Aust had caffeine?

i thought that it only has caffeine in the US?

anyway, giving up must be hard, but rewarding. good stuff

TEGBOY
Stooge-- not sure, I was lead to believe it contained it.
~Sparkles~
I was under the impression ours contained caffine but no way near as much as the US.

I can't beleive you like that stuff though Clint - its bloody aweful!
In other news theres a USA Foods around the corner from me at work and they have Dr Pepper - OH YEAH! My brother in-law was so impressed when I told him about it (he's a yank)
TEGBOY
Love USA Foods, I get my Apple Jacks from them.

lol caffines a bitch, people always get agro and pissed off when they come down off it. (after a big sesh tongue.gif)

Tegboy, glad to hear you're kicking the habit, although I'm just getting into the "C" business. I don't get the alertness, but do get the palpitations.

You're just having a bad decaf. I used to think decaf taste be piss-weak, but it need not be so. There are so many processes form bean to cup that you can't safely make such a claim. Unless, of course, you're talking decaffeinated instant C.
~Sparkles~
Tried cold brewed coffee?
Fudd
Dr Pepper is the worst drink ever.

caffine FTW!!

im addicted to things..
VL Commy

Try going without any caffiene, I get major headaches on the weekends without it
TEGBOY
Its been a while since I wrote this, I have started drinking iced tea, which has caffiene, but without the nasty stuff that the Coke/Pepsi mixes have. I do have the odd pepsi max, but its not as addictive anymore.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments and support!

Coke uses different flavourings for can glass and plastic bottles.

Best flavour in order:
1. can
2. glass
3.plastic

I machine the sh.it down smile.gif
