ok, something was choking the celica.

(as cut from another thread)

the celica...may not be dead. whilst not offering a full solution to the problem; my mechanic just suggested to redirect the excess oil blow-by from the breather on top of the head somewhere else (as opposed to into the air filter/carbie, choking the car!), as in, even as far as to zip-tie a bottle somewhere lower running a tube from the breather into it, and clean the bottle out every so often

looks to be three-quarter inch hose

i intend to go to supercheap/etc and pick up an 800mil length of the hose (depending on the price) so i can run it where i need to. (probably only use 500, but i'd rather be safe).

questions
- the new hose will go straight from the top of the head into a bottle/container; i just tried it with a spare water bottle and its a pretty good fit. should i cut a hole in the top of the bottle somewhere to allow for excess pressure to escape?
- where the hose used to feed to, the top of the air filter, is now an open piece of tube (only around an inch long); should i seal this off using something (???) or will this be ok open?

cheers

edit: picked up 1m of hose for $13, a very nice fix for me lol

Geez Enzo ..... if you have that much blow by you're due for an engine rebuild sad.gif

Yes .... put some holes in the top so that the bottle doesn't get pressurized.

If the open tube is before the air cleaner element then you can leave it open.
If it's after the air cleaner then you need to block it off so that you don't get foreign matter sucked into the intake system.
In some cases you might also run a hose from your PCV valve into the catch can.

Start saving up some coin for a bottom end rebuild smile.gif

o dont tell me that sorta stuff Allan, i got the head done on it in Jan!!!!!!!!!

few holes in the bottle it is *tick*
block off the back of the air cleaner *tick* (its one of the big round O shaped air cleaners, this tube is on the back side of it (opposite the much larger intake section)

the pcv valve (which i now know what that bit is thanks to google lol) is a little loose but its ok, if i have problems with it i guess i'll do the same as this.

Annnnd, if any repair is going to cost over $300 for the celica, i'll be throwing the towel in on her and driving my dads Prairie wink.gif. (sad.gifsad.gifsad.gifsad.gifsad.gifsad.gif, i really want her to last till xmas though) One or the other until I've the money for that A3(/something) around Dec/Jan. (check the 18" sub thread in the General section for my ideas for the Prairie tongue.gif)

Cheers!

edit: i'll sort this out tomorrow arvo (after one exam, before the next one the day after tongue.gif), too dark now. as easy as a couple of zip ties, my good cutters and a spare water bottle.

Your head would be fine Jacob since you've just had it reco-ed smile.gif
It's just the rings are no longer sealing properly against the bore (worn or broken) and that is allowing the crankcase to pressurise.
Unless the blow by is that bad that it's pumping raw oil into the catch can then it should last you till christmas .... just don't rev the crap out of it like you used to .... wink.gif
enzo
lol

there's the thing.....3000revs is me screaming the guts outta the celica

gordo didnt believe me until he saw it but yeh, just, not a revving engine.

cheers mate

I agree with Alan sounds a bit terminal.
