what do people think of these?
Matt recommended these in another thread?

or is there better mid ranges around?
or are these just cheap and nasty drivers?

the price appeals to me biggrin.gif
also the 3" driver size, as i do not have a lot of space in the kick panels

also.. from peoples experiences, would these work well with Boston Z6 components tonally? I'm currently running everything active and have got the spare amps channels and h701 to control it with

I was planning later to angle the mids out.. but if i can get a decent 3" midrange and stick or even 2" and place that in the kicks that would be great along side with my tweeters

oh yeah.. here's the link taken from other thread

no disrespect to Matt at all, but when people start using one brand they tend to reccomend it to everyone, suitable or not (or crap or not)
Perless are a good brand, (now perless/vifa i think) you probably wont go wrong with them.
as for suiting the bostons.. i dont know.

personally i wouldnt waste my time going with a 3in midrange when you have a 6.5 mid, if it was an 8in yeah go for it.
you are just going to add more headaches in setting it up

id love to use the Boston z6 as a mid range, as I quite like the sound it produces, the only thing is, being a 6" driver, its just too big, and the kick panels and dash area are just too small to do anything in like that.

even leg room is the greatest

at that sort of price you cant really go wrong I dont think. However, dont expect instantaneous better sound quality with them over your 2 way setup. I'd use them to learn how a 3 way system works, to practce get your installing and angling and tuning better. Then, in time, you can maybe think about upgrading to a better mid and a better midbass.

what do you feel is lacking in your system at the moment, or do you just want to use the H701 'cause you can?
s4turn
haha, yeah a bit of both
I want to angle the mids out a little, as when I had the door cards off, it sounded much nicer! smile.gif

but also having the amp channels and additional preouts on the h701 makes it more tempting

if I decide to just keep it 2 way, i will end up angling the mids from the doors

if i had the space, I would be putting in 8" midbass speakers and using the z6's as the midrange
Fudd
i cant really see the need to go a midrange. i think it's just a waste of money

piss off the 6.5 and go 8's!!!

or 10's in boxes behind the front seats...

It was me actually.

He's a review if you hadn't found it already http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showth...ighlight=830986

I'm looking for a small frame fullrange driver, because I'm finding it hard to get clean response from the kicks. Although my Morel's play clean and high enough to work in a 2-way crossover, when mounted in the kicks they don't produce a smooth response when measured at the listening position.

Using a small frame speaker will afford the ability to run them on axis much easier, and when used in conjunction with a decent midbass in some case should afford better response/linearity then using the larger driver on a compromised angle.

My concerns with the 830986 over the TG9 is the lower sens coupled with the 8ohm nom. The peerless could be roughly 4dB lower in level for the same amplifier power as the TG9

Does't anyone want me to waste money? tongue.gif

im actually really stoked with my new system, i think its sounding quite nice to my ears...
i guess I just wanted it to be better tongue.gif

And would it be better?
Matt VIP
maybe...

but it could be worse... shok.gif

Ah, but you would never install it in the hope of massive dynamics, in this case you'd aim the use of a driver like this for people who are really struggleing for space, yet want better dynamics and low end performance then a dome mid can offer, and for that purpose it excels quite well. But yes you need to be practical about what you can acheive with any 3" or 4" driver.

Pffft. If your car is big enough to fit at least two people up front, its big enough to fit a puny 4.5-6.5" midrange there too.

The only time I'd EVER recommend such a tiny piss-ant driver, is if you are using it in an MTM array. In which case, I'd still probably recommend something else......

To the OP though, if you have problems, try first finding out what those problems are, and what the root cause is. Adding more drivers isn't going to allow your problems to magically disappear.....

Look closer at Fudd's first response. He may not seem like the brightest fella (no disrespect to Fudd at all..... tongue.gif) but his words ring very true indeed....

Depends on the car, your not fitting anything in my kicks, there isn't enough clearance between your feet and the kick and there is also alot of wiring and some form of computer behind the drivers kick, so unless your rewiring the car, and repositioning the bonnet release etc. your not fitting anything down there, and realistically your not fitting anything bigger then a 3" or 4" at a push in the A pillar. People could do alot more then there willing but is it worth it in a car, to potentially destroy your interior, I don't want to spend $1500 + to rebuild my interior when I choose to sell my car.

It's the same as a small format tweeter vs large format, in 90% of cases a large format will perform better, but is it always worth the dramas trying to fit them in a car for a 5% gain over a decent small format, it's each to there own.
s4turn
I was just wanting to experiment i guess, due to the price and what I have available to use

I think i will just angle out my mids

Just remember sound preferance is a individual thing.
