Hey guys, after having bass-less system in the Jeep for over a year now, it's time for another loud (but low budget) system.. I have just bought an oldschool SPL160 and am looking at buying a second one in the upcoming couple weeks.
Firstly, I need to find a suitable amp to run them (subs are dual 4 ohm each)
Secondly, I have been given 10 deep cycle batteries, used in UPS systems... can these be useful?
Thirdly, I was thinking about a removable walled box (big square box with trim panels to seal behind the box from the front).
The Jeep is my daily and I quite often need the luggage room, so the box will NEED to be removeable in a matter of an hour or so.
Can anyone suggest how I should tackle this
Also, what is the lowest class i can enter with the equipment of choice.

You will probably find the batteries will have a decent ah rating however their cca rating won't be suitable for spl use. As for the 160's I used to run an mtx 81000D per sub with no issues.

lowest class would be super street 1-2 No wall provided you dont go over the window line.

For the part about the removable box, have a look at what this guy's done. He's using brackets that bolt into his seat mounts to hold the wall in, then a removable baffle that form fits to the rear of the cab.

Broadz I've played and played and played with all kinds of configs and the SPL 160 and I cant get a really high output down around the 48htz which according to yourself and a bit of searching around the US sites seems to be where the jeep peaks at.
The SPL160 seems to like it up closer to 68hz

Thanks guys, the seat anchor mounts look great! very good idea!!!
http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showt...d.php?p=8192727 is what im pretty much after on a lower budget scale.
I'm still to find a suitable amp(s) for the job i was looking at buying the 1500wrms clarion from www.ryda.com for little under $400 new or persquado's Hifonics Brutus with the same power output.
Reality is: I know it wont really be competitive against the big players but i would like it to be more of a ground pounder then SPL machine.

I picked up the second SPL160 and looks like both with need to go to total recoil for rebuilds.

I've looked at a few different amps:
Schneider 7000X
EAudio 3000D
Epsilon 2500D
I'm not too sure what amp will best suit.
Also, the 10 batteries i have been given:
http://www.vision-batt.com/newpdf/FM/6FM55SG-X.pdf I dont know if its suitable or not... can anyone help?

Thanks Billy, I could but i dont have drivers quite capable of handling Z1A power, nor the funds to..... Trust me i'de love to go big but after recently buying a house, i have very little to spend on any past-time.
I've had an offer of an Earthquake PHD5000 as well now. any better/worse then the above mentioned?

not as good as a z1a but it also a third of the price i think it should enough power for you and more and you will fry yourr subs all the time.

do you know what the "realistic" power output at 1 ohm and at 12 volts would be? Cheers

cant realy say they dont state at what voltage they got that proberly 14.4v and at 1ohm should be around 3800-4000w

Not exactly sure of the actual power output of the EQ 5000, but I know our "2400W" M3 was over 1.5dB louder at 0.5 and 0.25 nominal.

After you and Jamie visited, i checked the specs on the PHD's. They're a 2ohm amp, and prone to smoking at 1ohm and less.

i have loaded the amp down to 0.5 and 0.25 many of times and never had a problem, and it is my amp that i loaned to tom to use in his cino which holds the record for street max at the moment and that was not a optimal setup.

Thanks mate, i have bit the bullet and bought an amp. I now have ~2500w RMS @ 1ohm 14.4 volts to play with.
Not exactly huge in today's standards, but for a system used daily... should be plenty to play with.
Saturday, i dropped the SPL160s in to Boyd at Total Recoil. The are being reconed with black kevlar cones, new original SPL160 dustcaps and repainted baskets. Hopefully these will come back a lot stronger then original.

any idea on cost for that dan?
broadz

Cost me $190 each driver, I pick them up friday/saturday...
Amp I ended up with is the Epsilon 2500D (half sized surfboard).
Hopefully I'll have some new toys set up to play with on the next meet (24th)

Will changing the cone material effect you in terms of dB drag rules?

I dont thinkso?

I dont think it will, as it is essentially still an SPL 160 driver.
Just ordered enough 1/0 for four runs (2 runs of positive and 2 runs for grounding)
Most likely will be running it externally (under car) as there is very little room for 4x 1/0 to run inside the car.
Cable will be anchored with these:

and covered from front to back with techflex or plain split tubing (what is better suited)
