Hello,
i was going to buy my friend's eclipse 8445 but here in my area there is no warranty for Eclipse, so i'd want to know which one of the two units would be a better choice in my 2way passive setup? alpine 9835(my friend has one brand new) or nak cd400? without any external processing can the nak sound as good or better than the 9835?
thanks

for raw SQ, the nak and eclipse will have it over the alpine, but the alpine remains very good.

but i find the tuning features a boon. not so much the paraEQ, but the time correction.

what will your system comprise? and where exactly will the drivers (mids, tweeters, sub) be? if you can do without TC, then the nak may be a better choice. but if the drivers are somewhat separated, TC will come into play. this can greatly enhannce imaging and coherence.

if it's a 2-way passive, then TC isn't critical. so you could do without it. cos even if the tweeters are dashtop and woofer down low, you cannot overcome this with a passive setup. though in an active setup, you could.

He's saying, for active, the Alpine has time correction, which will enable you to compensate the speakers' path length differences. I was using that very head unit with a 2-way active setup, and it did everything I wanted and more. Internal amp can be deactivated, et c.

Haven't used the Eclipse or Nakamichi, so can't comment on them.
