First, let me say a big Well Done! to all competitors who came on a damp day and made a good social occasion. A very good vibe around the place. Nice.
Thanks also to No Limit Car Audio for hosting in a friendly and hospitable way. Props to Louis and the boys and to Eclipse who sent their rep and lots of goodies.
A note about scoring at this event. We were a bit tougher this time, particularly in the Amateur classes where the progress in quality has been good and we need some "room to move" on scoring to reflect this.
A couple of set-up "feaux-pas" from some competitors (particularly in sub-bass set-up) that hurt their scores quite a bit and some of the scores you see are not true indications of the real quality of what they have achieved, rather what was presented on the day.
As Ben was the only competitor to enter for Pro Street (where was Henry?) he won by default without needing to be officially judged. I scored this later and the new set-up is very promising. Would have made it very interesting to back-to-back with Henry but this was not to be.
Please note (especially Nathan) that due to Marty and Ben being better judges than arithmeticians, his score is revised (upward) here.
Apologies in advance for shortage of info as I don't have the entry forms on me at the moment and will edit it up asap.
Without further ado:
Pro Show
Ist: Nathan Carlini, BMW 203/219
2nd: Asgar Khan, Hyundai 174/219
3rd: Dion Wassell, Nissan Pulsar 163/219
4th: Pete Banco, "Opel" Barina 155/219
Pro Street
1st: Ben Simpson, Mirage 135/150
Amateur Show
1st: T-Rex, WRX 176/219
2nd: Paul Conn, Lancer 171/219
3rd: James, Pintara 163/219
4th: Mark, Subaru Liberty 155/219
Amateur Street
1st: Joe Vu, Honda 118/150
2nd: Thomas Luckey, Camry 115/150
3rd: Brett Coles, Magna AWD 114/150
4th: Steven Moore, Commodore ute 110/150
5th:Greg Jobson, Hyundai, 106/150
6th: Peter Harlovic, 104/150
7th: Casey Lloyd, 102/150
8th: Sam Hollier, Falcon 101/150.
Judge's Choice went to Brett Coles whose fire extinguisher wasn't fitted up and given it is worth 5 points, it is not hard to see the impact of this.
Encouragement award went to Greg Jobson who pranged his car on the way to the comp and still came and competed and socialised cheerfully. The car also sounded pretty good and has good potential.
Award of the Eclipse head unit went to Sam Hollier. His car has potential to be very much better than the score on the day. With a decent HU and some set-up work, Sam can be competitive in this class.
I will get back with a date for the next round to fit between this one and the Newcastle Auto Salon round in September. Most likely it it will be 7th August at AutoBarn Penrith but I will confirm asap.
A huge thanks to Marty (fhrx77) especially who did the real hard work as the "all classes" judge on the day.

I'll probably enter P.Street at the next event too if we can grab a fourth judge by then.

Likewise
Got quite a few changes lined up for the next comp though so hopefully i'll see an improvement there
But anyways, Kudos to all who were involved, and thanks to all who helped make the day a success!
Oh and thanks to the judges for their valuable advice!

Yeah i had no idea what the rules were or anything going into this event....and my splits only went in on Saturday afternoon, with the tweeters being placed in the wrong spots.
I lost out in the safety side of things...... battery terminals not covered & fire extinguisher not secured.... didn't know about those.
Didn't know my remote control had to be easily accessible either.
But oh well, compete & you shall learn i guess.
I also took some advice which i thought would be helpful..... but it only backfired on me.
But anyway..... the tweeters have now been moved, the gaps around the mid range have been sealed & i'm interested to see how i'll go next time after some sound deadening goes in.

Good onya for competing anyways!
I lost points because I was afraid i'd have my sub set to loud (an SPL setup at a CAASQ event this is the work of the devil!) and instead went wayy into the opposite direction and turned the sub down way to low
Should have known that it was unnatural for an IDMAX to be that quiet !
Aside from that just a small stage height issue.
By next event both issues should be resolved, plus maybe i'll toss in a few bonuses as well
Just wondering, how strict are the rules regarding system modification? I.e. how much of the system is allowed to be modified during the season?

We have no problems with you changing pieces of the system during the season.
Just don't actually modify from standard the pieces themselves if you want to stay "amateur".
That said, part of the learning process is seeing how you can improve a basic set-up by tuning, perhaps trying tweeters in different positions, that sort of thing.
I am looking at doing a thread SOON! on "tuning tips" for all to see, so that you get a basic understanding of what we are looking for in the context of the CD we use. I think that should help to establish how to set relative levels, gains, filter slopes, eq's where you have them, etc in a practical SQ sense.
ie what you are looking to achieve when you listen to your set-up..

Not too many surprises up my sleeve for next comp unfortunately.....
Except a lot more crossover adjustment, of course

Sounds good!
The time and effort made to help others is appreciated

We are such helpful little vegemites LOL
Seriously though, the goal of the competition is to assist people to improve their systems and understand the tuning process.
It is much easier to travel the road if you know where you are going!
