Pre registered with vodafone and got an email this arvo with a link to order the new iphone. Already with vodafone on the 79 cap so just added the iphone 16g black to it for an extra 11 a month for 24 months. Sweet as. Cant wait for it to arrive now. I'll let you know how it goes when it comes.

Nice. Im still considering this or the Nokia N82. Voda is the only one that has the N82, but i think i prefer it over the iPhone. 2mp camera (and no flash at all) is a bit crap IMO for a sub-$800 phone (outright). Apparently there is a lack of MMS functionality and something else but i cant remember what it was? lol.
Oh and no forward facing camera makes making 3G 'Video Calls' rather hard.

doesnt do video calling or mms so camera doesnt matter. I didn't get it for the cam, just mainly phone and internet browsing.

I was thinking of getting one. Depends on my tax return. Will get it outright if i get enough back to cover everything else as well. Dont want it on a cap. Already with 3 and im happy with them

i was thinking about getting one.
But for it do anything decent you need to hack(jail break) it and there goes ya warranty and being the first run im sure there will be issues with them for sure.
I think i will go ahead and get the N95 like i was going to before i heard the iphone was coming here. Or wait for the N96 even.
Will check out the iphone though once the hype dies down and go from there.

Hack what? They have now opened it up to 3 party apps. dont have to hack anything. You do know they are now released in aus, its not an overseas one.

My bro got one from overseas awhile ago, it's great but the camera is nothing special.
I'm liking the N82 though, too bad it wasn't out yet when I was on the hunt for a new phone a few months back.

already got a decent digital camera, so really WGAF about a crapty camera on a phone.
I'm getting one on the $49 plan through optus, then moving up to $59 after the first couple of months (taking advantage of the free downloads for 1st 2 months

)
should be a great little toy, and I hope you're incorrect about the "first batch being dud's"....

Just out of curiosity, what is it about the I-Phone that is selling it to people.
Why buy this over other phones? What makes it that much better than other phones?
I don't know much about them, but a lot of the guys at work are rubbishing them before they are even out.
I'm no hater, but just wondered what all the buzz was about?

Screen size, touch control is unmatched, very user intuative with touch sensing, looks hot, syncs with my mac wirelessly and easily. navigation. internet. 16g storage, plus a crapload of apps that are coming out that will make it like a miniature pc in your pocket. Plus its only costing me 264 dollars. Why not get it is my question?

Can you elaborate on the bold bits? I am not suite sure what it means.
I suspect the 16GB's would be unmatched with most phones as well wouldn't it?

the touch interface is the same as the new ipods, so you use a combination of certain finger movements (ie swipe, pinch) etc to navigate through the menus. Its the ducks guts, apparently.
I'm getting one cause I'm due for a new phone anyway (my nokia is giving me the irrates), and I dont mind jumping on the apple bandwagon. Love my ipod, very handy, and intend to do a cool install trick in the car with it too.
my $0.02 ...

It can tell when you accidently touch it and ignore it, also detects little movements and is very responsive. ie. it doesn't take ages to react to your touch, its very fast.
You can get 16gb in other phones but you usually have to add it via a memory card/flash card.

ordered a white one this arv on teh optus 89 cap.
should be here mid next week.
i want it for a few reasons.
1. im sick of carrying a phone and an ipod around. having 2 things in teh pocket is cluttered as fuck. having one will be great.
2. im due for a new phone, and this one really fills my needs. i dont need a great camera, i dont use mmsing very much, but im sure there will be an app for it released soon anyways.
3. wifi/3g/internet. love it
4. fucking awesome data plans. first phone to have a dedicated data plan in aus.
5. no other phones with similar abilities appeals aesthetically to me. the iphone is sleek, thin, and looks like a supermodel turned into a phone.

my old man just got an iphone today. since he doesnt know how to use it, im left playing with it.
so far the GUI looks absolutely stunning! still mucking around with minor settings and syncing with itunes.
one thing though, couldnt figure out how to change the name of the actual phone, so im now stuck waiting for it to erase its entire memory and what not (takes an hour

)

well im in the market for a new phone...would like to stay on 3 though...i think ill either end up with nokia N96, N82 or iphone...dont know a whole lot bout the iphone though.

Jul 12 2008, 11:56 AM
^ Same here. Its either N82 or iPhone. I think i could probably deal with the 2mp camera (my phone only has 1.3mp, so its still an 'improvement'), but i would prefer if it had MMS aswell.

Yes it is an amazing interface. But still not sure if it's something I can live with. Time will tell.

I was 7th in line with deposit on launch day, and still missed out on White 16Gb iPhone (the store got 2 Black and 1 white 16Gb and about 8 8Gb phones). There was still the opportunity to get an 8GB version but if I'm going to have the phone for 2 years may as well get the one I want.
Damn country stores, but it will come eventually. I've gone this far into life without one another week or so isn't going to hurt anyone:)

So now you need to carry around a phone + camera. lol

Well, for those that like camera functionality, it might not be the go, but for those that can live without it, i guess its a good thing.

The inbuilt camera is completely craptacular. I've had my Gen 1 iphone since the start of the year, and I hate the camera with a passion...
