Looking for a aftermarket deck to replace the stock in my MY08 Volkswagen Jetta.
Primarily looking for something that has/is:
Clean looking front, thus preferably the 7" models
Bluetooth capable, with good qual inbuilt mic or able to install an external mic, sync phonebook etc.
Ipod compatible, will charge Ipod, will allow me to search by artist/song etc.. standard stuff
Be able to keep my volume/track change steering wheel buttons with PAC kits etc..
Good sound quality (der)
Note not overly interested in the video quality as I don't see myself using it for much of that.
Have come across the following in my travels and wonder if anyone has an opinion about why to go, or not go, for a particular model or if I should consider something else

Out of them all I would look at the Alpine 502, its probably the nicest looking and feeling out of the lot. However Pioneer's new unit will be out soon which will be double din CD/DVD with navigation built in for around the 2 g or a tiny bit over mark. It will look pretty much the same as the 6050 does.

i got the Clarion MAX686BT the other day. PRetty good unit, still trying to use bluetooth feature properly. I got a Sony ericsson C902 and it connect and i can make fonecalls but my phonebook and call history does not appear on the screen. Also when you set it on autoconnect, it connect and it switchs the Source of the unit from whatever you listening to e.g. Tuner to Bluetooth streaming which is annoying.
But other than that has every feature under the sun. Well most anyways. Everything u need from a deck.

I quite like the sony, you can buy the ipod module but afaik theres no bluetooth module and no gps..
I'll second waiting for the new pioneers they are launching them in qld on the 18th Aug so stock shuld be avalable soon after... I have seen them at the 08 product launch and they look like the Biz... Best part is they are now using the parrot bluetooth software which is infinatly upgradeable as new phones come out down the track via SD I think..

The Kenwood DDX8032BT is a great unit, Has BT, DVD, DIVX and USB.
It will also do IPod Video playback with the pruchased of an $80.00approx. cable
It also has the provision for a hard wired remote which I'm pretty sure the Jetta has. You do need to get a PAC Module but you will also need a Can Bus adapter and Facia to I think.
All these can be purchased from most Stinger resellers
Good Luck and nice choice of car

I've got the Eclipse AVN6000 and its trick as.
iPOD is an external adapter which charges your ipod and lets you select track album genre etc. from the head unit.
I have an external bluetooth adapter for it as well, but it has no phonebook on the head unit, so you have to save voice tags on the bluetooth unit itself or dial from the phone.
I'd recommend this unit if you're looking for GPS, because I think with the other units, (alpine and clarion at least - don't know about the others) that if you have a GPS piggy-backed onto the unit, you don't have touch screen functionality when using GPS - you have to use a seperate GPS remote.
I have it hooked up to my car through the CAT10 to use the steering wheel controls, but i don't know if this would work with your car...
