What a great weekend !
Perth AutoSalon 2008

SPL for me is like Top Fuel Drag Racing
A whole lot of power to harness & get down the track
It's a fine line between performance & disaster !
Working hard between rounds to turn it around & do it all over again !

My wheelbarrow is a dyno for speakers.
I have done no testing or tuning in my workshop to date.
I've been leaving that for the lanes for the crowd to witness the amount of work that goes in, and the catastophic failures that can occur.
I was just trying to get a 150 something on the scoreboard for Qualifying, but I pushed that but to hard without the Electronic Control Systems activated, which lead to a fused tinsel lead.
Because I was saving the ECS for the Finals, where I wanted to go 170dB++, I now had only one Drive Circuit in place, not the two !!

The next solo run we had was just to let it all loose, using one Drive Circuit + ECS, and it ran 167.0dB
If you relate that back to standard speaker drivers, if you disconnect one coil of a DVC, you lose more than half the output of the driver.
So based on basic Physics, did this mean a potential of at least 173dB if it was meant to play out the way I planned ??

So anyway, in the words of Tuneman - Crap Happens - we went away & bolted a spare in, a conventional SoundStream SPL-X122 12" sub and drove it to a 170.7dB
We hit that score without failure, but I continued to drive my modified "Arc Welders" into it until there was FIRE !

Thanks for enjoying the spectacle with me.
We will have some videos edited from those runs very shortly.
So keep posted on http://soundsxplosive.com.au for some close up Xplosion shots !

I have finally finished the "vehicle" & the transporter, so can now do some workshop tuning & look forward to future woofer development.
And please look forward to more spare parts, more fires, and more SPL at future events.

hold on, im a little confused.

is this in a car, or a wheelbarrow?

coz 170 in a wheel barrow is a bit unsure.gif seeing as how its a much smaller area

No, not a car. It's monster class. No points, no records. It's just a bit of fun. smile.gif

A smaller area is actually easier to make loud. Stick the sensor in the box of a 140dB car and see what it reads. smile.gif

Sorry to take the spotlight off of you Frago, but there was also a toilet there aswell! to burp you push the flush button, was classic! both entrants were awesome but frago ended up in front. he also gave us a little fireworks show too tongue.gif

its a fun little class and ever since PAS i've been looking around for weird and wonderful things wondering if i could morph them into a monster.
