hi there guys,
looking at getting the new alpine w502e, however was wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with the iPod feature?
im asking this as its also time for an iPod upgrade as well, and was wondering if the screen actually displays video etc as stated on the alpine site
also looking at getting the 8Gb ipod, but am worried that this unit will have the same problem of having a limited number of playlists and tracks which can show a track ID similar to iPod adapters and units in the past. if this was the case it would be useless to have an iPod with such a large storage capacity

if anyone has any experience, please post up! ive got a tax return burning a hole in my pocket haha
cheers dan

what size iPod do you have? and how many songs do you have on it?
main concern i have is the ability to scroll through a large collection of music...
cheers for the reply

I have the IVA-W502E with KCU-450IV (Ipod video/ USB lead) with an Ipod 80gig Video about 7000 songs, it works perfectly, in the normal operation view it will tell you what is playing next.
It also gives me searching options for all videos on my ipod (happy tree friends podcasts) or downloaded videos (top gear) etc.

sounds good

yher bit of a typo in the original post, im actually looking to get a 80/160 Gb like yours
when you say that it gives you some searching options, just wondering how this works? i assume that it would be something like a folder option or alphabetical order or something?
without it gather navigating through 80Gb of music would get quite cumbersome :s

Ipod Music searching is as Album, Playlist, Artist, Song, Genre, Podcast (Audio), Composer, Audio Books (???). In these search options you can Scroll with Letters A, B, C etc, or by single lines, or touch the sidebar in a particular area to skip further along.
Video is Video Playlists, Movies, Music Videos, TV Shows, Video Podcasts, same search options as music for scrolling..
Hope this helps.

Note, if you are considering maybe getting an iPhone then it WILL connect to the 502E but it has a minor - yet annoying - flaw. Every time you turn the source on/off without unplugging the iPhone the audio playback mute and can;t be played unless you unplug and replug the iPhone. Sounds like a small thing but gets infuriating after the 20th time. Alpine, by the way, officially state that the iPhone not not officially supported by the 502E

Hello
Have this head unit as well as the Bluetooth car kit and steering wheel adaptor kit.
Spent the last week sorting out the phone glitches but have now turned my attention to the iPod.
Today was its big test and it failed dismally. I have the 32 gig touch which is brand new with the latest firmware installed.
First issue is that the steering wheel controls don’t work when the iPod is connected. It’s doesn’t have to be the source selected but as long as its connected there is no wheel control function.
I have had it go silent on me and at one point I think the head unit locked up. Once this occurs it’s hard to get it back running short of powering down the head and iPod themselves.
But the most puzzling fault I have found today is that after a while I get a glitch in the songs like it has lost power for a split moment. It nearly seems like a time related issue like something in the back ground is trying to do something at the same time cause the sound to stop. It doesn’t skip or jump but it’s certainly noticeable and annoying. I don’t think it’s a loose connection as it’s too frequent and I am not sure which unit is at fault as they are fine separate. Connect them together and they don’t appear to play nice all the time. I have turned off nearly everything that is optional, tried to isolate interference sources to no avail.
If I power everything down and start again there appears to be a time where playback is uninterrupted by this fault but once it starts it does it on every song and sometimes twice if the sound is loud enough.
It has me beat as I don’t know which unit is at fault. Any ideas?

From memory the new ipods are not offical supported by this unit.
As in alpine has not tested it.
