You can now see a street view and map of most of Australia.
This means you can do a complete "walkthrough" of your town, surrounding neighbourhoods, suburbs, or even the holiday house '000s of kms away!

All you need to do is type in an address in the link above and hit street view!!

It's freaken me out man!

I've been running around my front ard looking for the cameras, yet I'm still not in the pics!

yeah, discovered this this morning...not the best 'coverage' around ballarat (one of the 'big 4' regional centres of VIC), but very good coverage in melton (suburb 40kms west of melbourne)

maps were done some time ago, using cars that travelled the streets, hooked up with cameras which took 360* shots to create the maps - they are obviously not realtime images

Mum and dads place - well not actually its their street - street view comes to the end of their road but doesnt go down it - must have been taken in the last 12 months - but more than 6 months ago as next doors house is forsale with the original agent (its still forsale).

Roads look to be in good condition.

My place - makes me realise how much work we've done to it. Cant even see my house in that pic! Must have been taken in the last 9 months as the place is for sale. Obviously the previous owner - or at least the tenants drove a disco

So what do the google cars look like?

I dont think they will actually do a street view of mum and dads place because if you look at the attached map and you see where I have blacked out the road - this is actually no longer a through road. It hasnt been for at least the last 30 years - mum and dad actually own part of what was the road though adverse possession. Wasnt that a fun game to play with the solicitors and titles office. So I'm betting they are gunna get around the back and go "hrmm wheres this road we're supposed to be imaging - ah well keep driving".

most of em are just regular cars with cameras mounted on a pole about a metre high on the roof - HERE IS A GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH FOR GOOGLE CARS.

lol advantage of living on a battle axe block, can only see the driveway that goes to our house, yay! no invasion of privacy for us

haha mum and dad have that at their new block too - except the driveway is still 27mtrs wide lol

Around Sunbury there were using a road registered 4 wheeler motorbike with big camera and GPS beacon on top.

Looks like they are updating around Bayswater....had a gander at our place but photo is from late January as my pruning handiwork on the bushes out front arnt done.
Missus informed me that we had a googoomobile up our street yesterday morning!

You serious? fark that. Man sitting on a quad for a couple of hours makes your balls get all tingly and rattley. Imagine doing it all day!
Dont get me wrong riding a quad is a whole lotta fun - but its not exatly the most comfortable place to sitting all day

nah carparking hasnt changed, when you came up you probably didnt notice the carpark out the front cause no one would have been parked there at that time.

can see my house, the cars in the drive. my bins out too like timm3h' so maybe they had the cameras conected to council garbage trucks..
