What im wondering is how thick a false floor should be? 12mm thick?
and secondly i need some ideas for a neat amp rack. i was thinking of flush mounting them. the problem i have is that i accidently (and stupidly) made the speaker wires for the pioneer splits too short to move anywhere else in the boot. and i also wanted to keep the sub box as at the moment i dont have much space or time to build another sub box.
any good ideas???
12mm should be plenty for your floor.
What is the reason you want to put the false floor in? If the amps are flush mounted they still won't be hidden and they still won't be 100% protected - those are the reasons I would go for a false floor. Give us a bit more detail as to what you want to achieve, maybe a sketch or two if you can.

well, i need a more solid mounting point as the carpet/plastic floor in there now is not strong enough as i have allready been in a crash and found that the sub just ripped out the screws.
2. the amps look sh1t just sitting there, i want something a bit more cleaner.
i have just mounted the bigger amp onto the back of one of the seats and now i will try to flush mount the other one. flush mounting sounds like the go for me.

I made a 'false floor' for mounting amps to the back of the seats, made from 3mm aluminium. light weight and not too thick, but still strong.

try attaching some bits of timber to the boot floor as "mounting points" with liquid nails. Then 12mm MDF over that.
