G'Day guys,
I'm after a Jaycar Response 4x100 amp, preferably a newish one (not the old bluey). Let me know if you've got one hangin around somewhere.
Also if you've got a pair of Response 6.5" splits you don't need, let me know, I might be interested.
Cheers, Turorit

That's cheap! I'd definately buy one if my local Jaycar had them. The ones you linked are the old models I think. My local only has this one:
http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA042. $300 is still cheap though, I was just seeing if I could get something even cheaper

Also, whats the difference between the 4x100 and the 4x100 full range amps? The full range is smaller, seems to have less power and a lower signal/noise ratio. I'm not entirely sure how much of an effect it would have on me if I'm running VDO Dayton 60w 4" splits off ch1 & 2, and a Pioneer W307D2 400w bridged off ch3+4.
Thanks for your offer on the coaxes, I'll keep it in mind as I'm still in the market for splits.
Cheers, Turorit

obviously they must be the superseded model but i would have thought any Jaycar store should be able to order them in (unless you are in the country or something)

Alrighty, I'll check it out on the weekend when I get a spare moment. I'm looking at buying the 4x100 full range amp and a 800w monoblock

Aug 29 2008, 05:09 PM
Well, I rang my local Jaycar, they said it was a discontinued model (as I already knew) and that they couldn't order any in. They said there was 1 left in Perth, and 1 in Melbourne or Sydney or something, but they can't do transfers from store to store.
I'll contact the Jaycar interweb site people, see if indeed I can order the amps I want through the site. Fingers crossed!

Well, I just ordered 2 online, paid with my credit card, the transaction has already been charged to my card..
Meaning, if they don't have them in stock, I would have just incurred a fee for overdrawing my credit card, and I will be requesting that they reimburse me for this.
I guess we'll see what happens.
an online store should NOT automatically charge a credit card.
the transaction should have to be confirmed manually, so they can make sure they actually have stock first!

Werd...
I might order tomorrow. Paying with bank deposit means I have to ring them to get their bank details, doh

Hi guys, I work in the Perth (northbridge) Jaycar store, Im pretty sure we do have one left.
I can find out if you want it and ship it to wherever? Im talking about the larger silver ones that kick ass. Lol. we sold heaps ever since they came out and have only had very few come back because some car audio companies here hook them up wrong (although im still not sure how). :s

I've decided to order the 4x100 amp (not the full range). I was gonna get the fullrange & an 800w monoblock, but meh. Too heavy for my pocket, too much to lose if someone decides to jump through my soft top and steal everything. I think the 4x100 should be plenty of power for my sub & pooey 4" splits.
I'll do a post order with a money order as I don't have a credit card (nor do I trust them online) and I cbf ringing up to get bank deposit details (I hate telephones)

the 4 X 100 "full range" cost the same, and gives the same power as the other amp..
they are both full range amplifiers, just one is a full range class D amplifier, which makes it more efficient, less heat, and physically smaller, while the other is a full range class AB amplifier, which will generate more heat, and if therefore physically bigger.
I ordered the class AB's simply because I have never liked the idea of a full range class D amplifier. Especially not one sold by Jaycar.

If you look closely, the "full range" has a tad less power.
4x100 Full Range class D:- Power / Channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 100WRMS x 4
- Power / Channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 150WRMS x 4
- Power / Bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 300WRMS x 2
- Signal / Noise Ratio: >70dB
vs
4x100 class AB - Power / channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 130WRMS x 4
- Power / channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 190WRMS x 4
- Power / bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 380WRMS x 2
- Signal/Noise ratio: >90dB

its basically the same, you aren't going to notice the difference, and the figures are given at 14.4 volts anyway.
the point is, I don't understand your reasoning for choosing the "non full range" over the "full range"

The power output was my reasoning for choosing the "non full range", and also you said "I ordered the class AB's simply because I have never liked the idea of a full range class D amplifier. Especially not one sold by Jaycar."

the class AB may make slightly more power, but the class D will run cooler, and may run a sub better as its a class D amp.
the class AB amplifier will draw more current, to make the same power that the class D does.
I thought you already ordered the class AB anyway?
either will be fine, I'm sure people can give reasons why to choose either. personally, I wouldn't choose the class D though, thats all.

Fair enough.
I chose the "Postal Order" method, so the just gave me a thing to print off & post to jaycar, it didn't submit the order online. I'll post it on monday when the post office is open so I can get a money order.
I've still got a day to think about which amp to buy. Overall I don't really think its gonna make an ounce of difference which one I get, both of them do something at a good price.

Just to let you know, I agree with TheyDontWantMusic because the 'full range' d class amp is kinda noisy while the the normal 4x100 class AB amp imo is pretty powerful and pretty low on noise. We tested both of them at work. So I would recommend the AA0426 amp.
PS JA0426 are ex repair or returned amps. Most part numbers with J in front are repairs or returns. Or sometimes demos.
And Hayden Cargell, Ill check tomorrow if we have one left and how much shipping would cost. Sorry, apparently were not allowed to transfer between stores if the item is discontinued. Stupid rule I know.

if I do get these amps, and they are repaired, or display models, they had better be in as new condition, because nowhere in the item description on the jaycar site does it say they aren't brand new.
I've ordered repaired items from their online store before, and it was clearly stated in the item description, the item was also 1/3rd the original price, but was in as new condition!
I guess we'll see what happens.
edit: it seems that part numbers starting with "J" are simply clearance items, not returns/repairs/display items:

My bad. The J items are discontinued stock, unless otherwise stated. These amps are therefore as far as i know still new. Better off getting the amps straight off our head office, theyre cheaper than what i can do them for. Also apparently they have at least a few of each one left

I rang the "Techstore" people earlier & the guy said that anything with prefix "JA" is a product that has been purchased by someone & returned under replacement warranty, then the faulty amp is sent to be repaired and resold, which is why they're selling them cheap.
Now I don't know what to get, especially since Pacman also mentioned the class D ones are slightly noisier.
Do I get a brand new class AB for $300, a repaired class AB for $150, or a repaired "noisy" class D for $150, taking the risk of having an amp that could cack itself on me.
Hrmmmmmmmm
Help?

obviously this is not the case, people don't tend to return microphone clips, and the like for replacement

you should get the 4 X 130amp for $150.
they aren't warranty repairs, if they were, they would have to state that this was the case.
if they ARE warranty repairs, which aren't in as new condition, I won't be very happy.
