Can anyone make a suggestion or have done this themselves. I am planning on fitting the Dynaudio 3 way split system into a VT commodore. I know where to place the tweeters and woofers but not the midrange. I am going with the 3 inch midrange. Do I mount them in the kickpanels or the a pillars? I was thinking cost wise in the kick panels but ease of install the a pillars.
TERRA Operative
I'll be fibreglass moulding and retrimming the door skins in my Corolla Levin to mount the mids just below where the wing mirrors are, sort of infront of the vents.
Pulse-R
cost-wise to do it properly is about the same for the kicks or the A-pillars.

for best results, if you are running passive (with the supplied crossover) I recommend mounting all the drivers close to each other as possible.

They work quite well like this in a skyline.

The placement of speakers is crucial, even more so if your running passive. Where are you intending on putting the woofer/tweet? Ideally place the mid-range close to the tweeter. I personally like midrange + above the knees unlike above, althought i'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. smile.gif

Here’s another example.

Install looks mad, did you do it yourself or an audio shop? This set is the 8inch, 4 inch and 1 inch tweeter yes? The VT doors are an absolute bitch to build out like your Volvo. The woofers are going in the factory door locations and the tweeter were going in the top of the dash ,so I guess the A pillars will be where I mount the midranges.
Thanks INVSBL

Thanks mate. I fabricated the doors myself using donor skins. Old volvo 850 door trims were purchased second hand, then hacked up and modified to house the Dyn woofers. Well worth every ounce of effort. (more pix in my signature) As for your VT's setup, I'm not too sure you will be able to house all those woofers without a fair bit of customization. I'd try and place the mid-range and tweeter up high and the mid-bass in the stock location. The installation will play a huge part in how it sounds, not just placement but correct fittings and enclosure sizes, sound deadening etc.

Awww... shucks kirbo.... smile.gif

yes.. that is my senator that kirbo put up in his last post...
i put my focal 4" midrange on the a-pillar & the tweeter on the demister trim...

you can try kick panel mounting but you'll have to relocate the ECU from the passenger side..

invsbl... i see your in melbourne.. come down to a meet/greet and say g'day.. i'd be more than happy to show off the trims and give you some pointers in a VT.. smile.gif

I was at the first round of the season, Phatt Audio. I had the blue VT with the 2 old school Soundstream 5.2 amps with the Alpine MRV t420 centred, all on the back of the sub box. Did not make it to the second round, maybe I will come to the third and say hello. Just getting board of my install and want to try something different, hence the 3 way setup. Will see how it goes.
Hey mate one other thing, if you read Street Commodores check out issue 101, page number (103). This was my original install until some of the components needed replacing.

aah.. ok... you would have seen my white VS at phatt then... the one with the full show setup & "gazebo" over it.. lol..

3 ways are fun.. I'll be at round 3.. but in the vs again, with the missus piloting it as its her car now...

not sure if i have that... but will look for it..

yes 3 ways certainly are fun,lol..sorry my minds in the gutter as usual..hehe.. ive seen damo's mids in real life, they dont look that big, its just the pick and close up thats decieving.. if you did 3 inch mids there the would be fine, and from what ive experienced they sound mad.. cheers dude,

3 Ways in a VT/VX commodore are not easy - Only real option is custom fibreglass mounts. I put my Tweeters in the A pillars, mids in the sail piece above the door vents, and midbass in the factory locations (roughly) - best bet regardless before any work is done is to experiment with the positioning of the tweeters and mids until they sound good to your ears. In 3 way setups the midbass will be fine in the factory position
