VIC members will see it at the next meet...doubt they will be ready for the test & tune next weekend though...

I hope you didnt get wank plate like "VE2NV", "UNVESS", "VE4U2C". Everytime i see a commo with plates like that, i want to kick it.

I just got a letter from Vic Roads....

"Your application has been reviewed and it is considered that the proposed number plate combination refers to speeding and undermines the Government's Roads Safety message and therefore is inappropriate for public display"

Back to the drawing board...

I called up Vic Roads and apparently I can write them a letter to explain why I should have the plates approved etc....

So, this is what I have written. Any other suggestions?

Dear Mr Morecroft,

I am writing to you in reference to you letter titled “CUSTOM PLATE – XLR8SS”.

My application for this custom plate has been rejected as it has been “considered that the proposed number plate combination refers to speeding and undermines the Government’s Roads Safety message and therefore is inappropriate for public display.

Here is my explanation of why I have chosen this combination and why it should not be deemed inappropriate.

Firstly, I had wanted to put “SS” on the end as I have an SS Commodore. The “XLR8” actually refers to the word EXHILARATE.

I get a lot of enjoyment from driving my car. I work in Sales for an IT company so I am always out and about on the road. I take very good care of my new car and wanted to add a nice touch to it with this custom plate.

I think you have mistakenly thought XLR8 to mean “ACCELERATE”. However, I don’t see how accelerating can be deemed to be offensive – everyone has to accelerate in their cars when they are driving, otherwise you would be permanently stopped. Hence this is why the pedal on the right is called the “accelerator”. If the word “accelerator” is too offensive, maybe the car manufacturers should name it something else as well. But that would be political correctness gone way too far. As I believe so is the rejection of my number plate application.

I have seen much worse than what I have proposed here for my custom plates. Recently I saw a plate that had “IOUSFA” – I took this to mean “I Owe You Sweet F*ck All” – surely that is offensive, wouldn’t you agree?

I am hoping that my application can be approved as soon as possible as I have had my heart set on this custom plate for a while now.

It was worth a try, but you've got none and buckleys chance of getting it. That said, there are a few plates like IOUSFA getting around, i see WTFM8 driving an S14 everyday.

Go for NIDKUS, they'll see sucked in looking at the rearview mirror. Like that lady who had SPOC8H as he plate, just you wont get in the poo like her.

Well, I'm gonna give the letter a try...see how it goes. Otherwise, I think I'll go with HEKYEH...plus that's $100 cheaper as well.

In the letter I wouldn't mention anything about accelerate, play oblivious for starters. Also don't speak (write) down to the the person who is approving the plates telling them about accelerating etc. If they think you think they're a dumbass they won't agree(that they're a dumbass) they will consequently screw up the letter.

I would say a well written letter would secure the plates, a possible fictional sentimental reason for the plates will help also.

Man a mate of mine ordered V8KLR for his diesel hilux. It was obviously FAR from a V8 killer its was about the irony. But again VicRoads deemed it to be promoting risky driving behaviour or some crap.

Any way your reacon getting custom plates sucks - you wanna try own a 4x4. Its going to cost me $5000 ($4000 of which is just hiring a race track and driver for the day) to raise the height of my diff by 50mm plus even then theres a chance it wont be approved without $1000's worth of brake upgrades and axle strengthening. Plus I have to buy tyres ontop of the testing cost @ $380 a piece.

Its little wonder there are so many illegally modified 4x4's on the road.

Its starting to make me think that $16,500.00 for a set of portal axles to raise the diff by 150mm with no suspension lift - ie road car type handelling in a 4x4 sound appealing. Its a drive in drive out pre engineered modification and it increases my GVM at the same time and is legal in all states of australia - including WA and QLD

use this X55IVE if taken, most people are onto the number/letter switch now.

Id LOVE to see the uproar after VicRoads sends out a letter saying that your chosen "HOMO" plate is 'offensive'.

XSSIVE is taken...but X55IVE is available....hrmmm...not a bad combo....

VCRDSX is also available...hehehe...But I don't think i'd go for that one...

i just read this thread! vic roads really does suck that would mean that quikss ssexy and catcup and all that sort of crap would not be allowed my number plates were approved some how even tho they could have said it promotes drug use oh well thats life we all know that the government sux balls as does censorship

id go with that, or XS.LTRS or X.SSVE.X you could use white screws as dots to define the x. ssve .x in the middle, know what i mean.. its not excessive, it ssve with an x each side. just my thoughts andy, good luck.

after i saw TOEY6L on a black LS2 Sportswagon the other day which i thought was quite good.

justkeep your normal plates. stands out less.
try getting a normal plate, sxy.666

or do what my mates have started all doing - getting black and white versions of their normal plates.

Good idea. I did that aswell. Made things so much easier, not to mention cheaper too! haha
