I was ment to get a 4ohm JL W3v3 but instead got a 2ohm one.

I am running ZR650CSi splits from a 300/2 amp thats 300watt RMS to the splits if full capacity will be given.

and the monoblock does 320watt RMS at 4ohm or 500watt rms at 2 ohm. Now I dont want huge base but the guy I bought the stuff off originally said that it should be ran in 2ohm from that amp to give the sub extra grunt.

So with 300watts to the splits would 300 or 500wats to the subs be ideal? in other words should I return the sub for the 4ohm.

just adjust the gains so you have the levels of bass/highs you want.

more power is always better.

Amps don't make their rated power as soon as you switch them on, read the gains tut in my sig. Once you've done that you'll see there is no problem having the 2ohm sub.
As far as 'extra grunt' goes, many people would consider this to be due to the build quality of the amp eg power supplies, capacitors etc and irrelevant to your choice of sub.

Keep it, most people would prefer the 2ohm in your situation.

I have 300W to my splits, and 1000W for the sub. that works well, plenty of dynamics (and head room) in the bass.

i have 180wrms per side for splits and 460 for sub. tho if i wanted to i could wind teh wick up and give teh sub nearly 1200wrms. but i wont.

i dont see any prob having a 2ohm sub.

i always choose more power over less. If the mono amp you have gives you more power into 2ohms (almost double the power) then i would choose the 2ohm version sub over the 4ohm version every time.

if you buy or have aa jlaudio slash series sub amplifier then you dont have to worry about the subs impedence as long as its above 1.5ohms.

you will get similar power output from a slash series from 4 to 1.5ohms. This is for every slash series amp made no matter the model number.

500/1 might be an idea choice for your jlaudio sub, the slash amps are just amazing.

ive always been a fan of the 4times the power on the sub setup (but it is sub dependant). So if you had a 2 x50watts rms amp on the front stage i would be looking at 1x200watts rms on the sub, 2 x75watts rms on the front splits then 300watts rms to the subs. This is a very general rule but its one i quite like.


btw how are you enjoying the JLAUDIO ZR series splits??

so it looks like the sub amp is a 1400 jlaudio which is an unregulated amp designed for around the 400-500watts rms figure. Should be a perfect match for a 12w3v3 2ohm sub. If you want to run another sub then you have to get another 1400 or another brand of amp thats 1ohm stable.
