This is something I spotted on the jaycar website, not sure if anyone has heard it before, but according to jaycar, it is designed like a speaker but it uses a steel weigh instead of a cone to literally 'feel' the bass
http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS...=&SUBCATID= Any opinions on this product or the concept of it would be interesting. Or if someone has one.. even better!

I put them, alpine bass shakers into a customers car a few years back, the car was a BA falcon ute. The rest of the system was front splits and rear 6x9's and it was amazing the illusion of the bass that was produced, but thats all it is an illusion. Since alot bass is perceived by us only as movemen,t this is what idea these work off. Bolting them to the floor under the seat shakes the car, there you have it fake bass. If you can get a sub in you should so you will here some freq's also. They are are a great idea but no replacement for the real deal

so it would work alright if you had them aswell as a subwoofer? I'm just very interested in the idea of them. Subwoofers just make a range of frequencies, just like speakers. The added bonus to sub is that they are able to move substantial amounts of air to make things shake. But this is a steel rod making it shake haha
Does is just feel like your seat is getting hit with a steel rod? Or is it a little bit more complicated than that?

I thought they were a bit like a rumble pack from a console controller?

Or you could get them for half the price since the Aura's shown in this sale are the same ones Jaycar sell.

It does not hit your seat, it is bolted to the floor directly under your seat and shakes the car underneath the seat. you could use it with a sub i guess but why you would want to i am not sure, maybe if it was an 8' to give the impression it was bigger.

The home theatre guys use them bolted to their seats, creates the impression of deep bass.
They're also used in driving simulators. I can tell you, it gives another dimension to Gran Turismo, being able to feel the car revving, feel every hit on the ripple strip and even being able to tell if you're on tarmac or gravel!!!! I have a few of these things and for car racing games, they're friggen awesome!
In a car, you would bolt them to the underside of your seat. They are basically a subwoofer with a heavy weight instead of a cone, so they shake and vibrate whatever they're attached to.
It's not like a metal pole hitting you, more a tactile extension of what you hear. You can feel the bass.

its amazing there still around! i remember getting a pair back in 98-99 from jaycar, the aura ones! they were giving them away for $5 each. put a couple under your front seat and see what there like, they dont need much power either or they tend to get really hot
if you pull the alpine bass shakers apart there the same inside and they were $250 at the time

its not a steel weight its moving, 'its the magnet, its a sub in reverse! with the magnet moving inside a fixed coil

With the amp and sub controller from memory, not sure about jaycar, but IIRC the alpine ones were made by aura...

I had them(alpines) and I liked em. I used them with a sub and they made it feel like I had spent what I have now on subs. basically they saved my about $1300 and the look on the gurls faces who took a ride was priceless lol
They are not the same as having a decmt sub set up but they are fun. I liked em but moved on
peace

I still have a pair of Alpines Bass Shakers....
Back in the late 90's we used to experiment with them by attaching them to sub boxes and baffles (both i phase, out, and with delay etc) It did all sorts of weird things like shift the resonance Fq and dips & peaks. We got real good a making a responce pretty flat on an RTA, but it sounded crap (lifeless)
The illution of extra bass was, as bsyde said, really noticeable. They actually vibrate more than anything else. This was a pure experiment, nothing i would bother with too much.

I have a Jacar bass shaker, my opinion is they are rubbish. It got really hot, didnt vibrate 1/4 of what i thought it would and when i fed it with anything more than 10W it would bottom out, the bolt that holds the magnet to the spider hits the cover! and goes zZZZZzz zZZZZZzz haha
I was going to put one in the passenger seat for a laugh but, it didn't work so well........ so there u go
