Hi all

I am about to start my install on my golf mkv. I am going to use the factory locations 3 ways and am limited to what i can fit in the midrange location. Standard is 4inch with a depth of about 50mm. I want to use cone speakers as they will play bit lower then dome's.

I have been looking at the focal 100kp (or the newer ones) or the hybird audio Legatia L3 as the L4 wont fit. What are your opinoins on these or if you know of other brands of speakers that will fit that location. My midbass will be ddw6.5.

Thanks in advance

could go the focal 100kp mate had some and sound really sweet, why not try a set of three way dyn's
they might be domes but they sound reealy nise and crisp
keepitreal07
look at peerless/scanspeak

i have exclusive peerless on order and will be here soon.
i use to have focal 100kp and they were nice...just the tn52 let em down to which i swapped to a hybrid audio tech L1

I need midrange that can go lower then domes as midbass position is on the back of the front door, so not the best position!!

They seem to be fairly deep the 4 inch in the peerless range but am still looking.
Keepitreal07 How did the 100kp sound with a different tweeter as this was also one of my options i was considering?

Here is a photo of the speaker locations.

4" is the biggest im going to fit because of mounting depth in midrange location.
Tweeter location i will be making custom.
keepitreal07
are you able to put the midbass in the front there....looks like alot of room

What about these http://cgi.ebay.com/Tang-Band-W3-832SE-3-F...1742.m153.l1262 mounting depth is about 50mm

The seller also has a 4" driver that is about 65mm in depth.

These drivers are OEM orders because they don't appear on the TB site so my guess is there surplus OEM orders, but you have all the specs so it shouldn't matter.

I dont want to go cutting into the door trim!!

Anyone have any experience with the Legatia L3.
muzzy66
I'd go for Peerless HDS 4" if you can fit them in there - they are brilliant drivers.

If not, then the Focal's look to have potential. They look great on paper, and given how good the 6K2P is (both on paper and in the real world) I'd expect them to perform nicely.

Yes, and to be honest, IMO its too small to crossover low. I liked it around 500-odd Hz, but the L4 is leagues better if you can fit it.

Thematt there are guys that fit the L4 but they need to open up the hole in metal and then seal it again.

Tell me what you guys think of this process.

Not a big fan of cutting metal!!

How are the focals crossed over low??

What about this http://www.madisound.com/catalog/PDF/830986.pdf or the 8 ohm version the 830987, the mounting depth is actually 50.7mm even thogh it doesn't mention it on the spec sheet, here is a review of it and a few other 3"-4" mids http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41582

The TG9 in that review is another driver worth looking at, as it has a mounting depth of only 38mm.

looking at the photo of the door and speaker locations what do you guys think the highest i should cross the midrange in at. I know its hard to tell from the photo.. Just by experience
icacha
you running a 10 soeaker system and the OEM amp is under the passenger seat? if your answer is yes then the amp is running all speakers active, the amp is doing the crossing over for 'those' speakers 'not' others you are planning on putting in...

this is due to the difference in impedance in drivers etc...

I dont have the amp under the seat i didnt get the premium sound as i got sat nav. I am planning on running new amps for the spakers..
icacha
they will be run passive then, you might not be able to see the crossovers until you pull everything out.
you shouldn't have any issues, just with crossovers if you choose to do a bits and pieces with brands of speakers.

I wouldn't go for L3, you should consider L4 instead... if installation is your issue, maybe you should try the Focal BE midrange very shallow mounting depth and it performs pretty good...
