Go to start-> Control Panel -> Network Setup wizard.

Click next twice till you have 3 options select the middle one.

Hit next 3 times till you get 2 options select the top one "Turn on file and printer sharing"

Hit next twice then you get 4 options select the bottom one. And hit next then finish.

Do the same on both laptop and Pc. This is on XP if it is vista then yell out.

Yes it will as i don't have any vista pc's. out of the 7 in my house 0 have vista all have xp so it is harder to guide u each step without having the options to give you word for word instructions. This is awesome i can touch type drunk and spell woooT!!!!!!!!!. Add DarkLanDeamon@hotmail.com to msn or email me at TravisCollins@exetel.com.au tommorow onwards as im not in the best position to give instructions hahaa.

Vista is just as easy to share files with as Win XP is.

If there are things that you don't know how to do in Windows I would suggest you always start with Windows inbuilt "Help and Support" first .... you might be surprised how good it is.

In both XP or Vista simply click the start button and then select "Help and Support".
In the search box type something like "shared folder" and you will get a number of responses, amongst which will be ones that tell you how to set up a network share on a PC and how to access it from another PC on your network.

I've dealt with vista when it comes to file sharing, and its completely useless.

on two different computers, the computer trying to access it has asked for a password for the vista machines, neither of which had any passwords whatsoever!

I got it to work once.

It worked once and have not been able to get it to work again since.

VISTA and XP is annoying, if they both were the same i think it would be easier.

Will be tring it again when i get home today.

XP:
1. Have an admin user account password protected.
2. Open up any folder then go to: Tools/Folder Options, Click on the view tab. Ensure that (use simple file sharing) is DESELECTED.
3. Poke yourself in the eye
4. Share your folder of choice by right clicking, go to properties and share folder

Vista: Access the XP pc via, start+run rather than browsing.
Example: \\xppc-1\awesome1 (You will find your PC name by right clicking on "my computer" / properties. Under computer name: full comptuer name)

XP will request a username & password, simply use the account you use on the XP PC to access.
