Hey all,

I got myself Viper 5701 and wanting to get it installed this coming weekend. I want someone who knows about the product to install into my car. Any recommendations?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Look to the left, see Crankin Car Audio? They are authorised DEI dealers which means they are authorised to sell and install Viper car alarms. Give Hakki a call and see what he can do for you smile.gif

And of course Marty from FHRX Studios is also an MEA Supporter and authorised Viper dealer.

Thanks guys! I'll give them a call now to get it install on the weekend.

I can hapilly vouch for Marty - his workmanship is nothing short of brilliant, and unlike many others these days he has an attitude to match.

I haven't install the alarm.

I called Marty and he asked me what alarm I have and told em a Viper then he advised me to call Leon from Security in Motion which is a mobile installer. Anyway, spoke to him and told me that he wouldn't normally install with an alarm that has a remote start. He also mentioned that he would not install and touch a car that has factory immobiliser. But in the end, he did mentioned that he can do it but it I need to sacrifice one of my keys.

Is this necessary? Also, he mentioned that remote start is illegal on Australia? Is this true?

I called my insurance (Shannons) and enquired about upgrading the security of the car before purchasing this alarm and told them as well that the alarm has a remote start and they say it is all ok. So if its illegal, then I should've been advise not to do it on the first place, right? I am confused!! sad.gif

I dont think remote start itself is illegal... but having your car running without anyone inside or around it is illegal. same reason why turbo timers are illegal.
icacha
law states that the vehicle cannot have its engine on while the vehicle is un-attended, so i guess turbo timers are illegal too...

so with the above comments mentioned from the original poster, i somehow think that my post was valid, but i guess that comes with experience... smile.gif
Marc
A vehicle running (unattended) IS illegal, in public places. Your driveway is OK to have your car running.

And yes, on many vehicles with factory immobilisers you do have to sacrifice one of the factory keys.

Same in Vic too Marc? I guess with each state having their own laws it's hard for people to know what is ok and what isn't...

Booked the car with Hakki on Friday to get it installed. smile.gif
Poisoner
the sacrifice of the key i believe is to hide the factory transponder(found in the key) in behind the dash to permanently dis arm the factory alarm.

remote start is legal to have installed in ur car u just cant use it. same as flame throwers in ur exhaust. or blue/red neons
Marc
Not entirely correct Poisoner.

Unfortunately, most technicians do not install these correctly and the key is constantly bypassing the factory immobiliser. When installed correctly, the key will only function to bypass the factory immobiliser at the time of remote start and that is the way they should be installed.

In Victoria, remote start IS legal also as I already mentioned, to have installed, AND to use. Just not to use in public places.
Maybe it's different in NSW, I will see what I can find out.

I thought it was illegal to have your car unattended while it was unlocked?(which basically covers having the keys in the ignition aswell)
I am sure if you took it to court they wouldnt get you for it as the law is ment to cover theft, and turbo timers dont allow the car to be driven away and the car can still be locked. Are people really getting done for turbo timers and remote start?

We'll just find out tomorrow if a key sacrifice is required. smile.gif

Hakki - I just replied to your PM'd. Sorry, I just logged in tonight, I hope I am not too late but I'll guess I'll see you tomorrow.

Oh, one thing. How can I tell if my Viper 5701 Responder LE is an upgrade or standard?

The only thing that I could find is one feature which is different. As per Viper site it says 6 channel remote start/security/keyless entry system while on the actual box I have it says 24-channel security/keyless entry system.
Marc
Did you tell your retailer what you required and what car it is for? As certain cars need the right upgrade module.

Now you are starting to see why its beneficial to buy from a local authorised dealer. They would of advised you of any additional parts required to complete the instal properly and offered advise of anything else you can do with the system.

Not to mention warranty.
