was cleaning out a room of crap and came across some of my old toys from when i was younger and i found one that i thought was awsome it was a plastic robot that u put batteries and oil in it and he moved around on wheels puffed smoke and said "I AM THE ATOMIC ROBOT GIVE MY BEST WISHES TO EVERYONE" it was the coolest toy ever (apart from lego)
and it still worked all 20 years later (doesnt puff smoke now tho)
wot cool toys did everyone have growing up that sh!t all over the cheap and nasty crap that is being sold today???

Yea, Voltron with the cats, TMNT characters, lego (which for some reason I would always lose the pieces I wanted, yet find 10 other pieces I was looking for yesterday, go figure) and transformers. Most of the toys were made better then they are now, and there was less of the "be careful and don't aim at someone's eyes" with the projectiles. That was half the fun.
Edit - GI Joes were pretty good too, until you broke their stupid crappy thumbs making them almost useless, though some tank blu-tac gloves solved their problem of having no opposable thumbs.

Ah yes! Action Man, oh and MicroMachines

Probably not as old school as most of you are talking about, but pretty old for my era/generation i guess.

Atari 2600 - but that was kept at the holiday house we werent allowed that at home.
Lego & some mechano though I always preffered Lego (but now I play with big mechano...)
Match box cars - dunno how many but we had a shopping basket FULL to over flowing with them plus some more.
HO Scale trains (which I still have some of them and I'm looking at redoing a layout)
Wooden toys
BMX bikes
Living on acreage there was always something fun to do though.
Never got into figurines I guess I thought playing with a little plastic man was for fags

I had an Amstrad, a Vetrex and a C64 all old school computers. Toys, I loved of course my lego and Mechano. I also had a great scaletrix set. Tons of Matchbox cars.
At our holiday house in Torquay we had the Atari and all the NES/SNES, Segas. I remember the x-mas holiday the NES was first released, my brother an I spent pretty much the whole time inside, we ended with the cross imprinted on our thumbs. Barely spent anytime in the water.. so much for a beach house, we could have done that in our house here

hahahah

LEGO mostly (i had a couple of plastic crates full of the stuff - including plenty of technics)
Also got hooked on these model houses where there is miniture bricks and mortar, roof tiles and all.
then there was plenty of die-cast model cars which i modified to have working (and non working) audio systems that would plug into my cassette walkman (old speakers from electronic devices)
500 or more matchbox cars + buildings and town mats
my favourite toy of all time was a self propelled - NON remote Toyota Hilux (ran on 4 aa batteries) which towed a makeshift lego trailer to suit my battery powered boat. I went through many "puddle" crossing, got covered in mud and just kept going and going and going (still runs perfectly).
It even had a working winch on the front of it!

Lego technics was the best. Especially the ones with the circuit boards.
And I still remember the coloured building blocks in the little wheel around trolley. Must have been 1 or 2 but i still remember how fun they were.
