5kw's of BASS please
G'day, Looking at making the purchase of the SR6500's (6.5" Compaxial splits)
for my MY07 Impreza Subaru. And my questions is what amp would you recommend
to run these too their MAX potential? I am looking for SQ (Dur, spent 1.3K on the splits)
but on the same note I am wanting them to scream F-ing loud.

No, I am not the type to have the system blaring @ midnight in suburbia Sydney, but
I love to freak the animals out along the highway on a Sunday cruise up the coast!
I have had great experience with Jaycar's line of amps. They are great value, and
the power for $ ratio is unbelievable. They sound great, have heaps of power, and
I will be hiding the 2ch amp under the seat so looks is not an issue.

I can see some people screwing there face at something like this (buying 1.3K+ splits
and to have them run off a $250.00 Jaycar amp [irony]) but I don't want to get
ripped off paying for mainstream items that would do the same if not worst job than
the Response Audio range which I have heard before.

I would be looking for at least a clean 150wrmsx2. More the better, as I am all for
loud music, but on the same note don't want to blow up speakers that I had to sell my
daughters dog for (told her it got ran over) - Nah jokes I wouldn't do that rofl.gif

Anyhow any help is appreciated. Anyone have experience with the SR6500's? I have heard that they love the power therefore considering purchasing larger than 150wrmsx2.

Thanks in advance and I kindly await your response =) bomb.gif

EDIT - Doors will be FULLY sound deadened!

hrrm....whats your max budget for this one...?

I'd think at least $500? considering you just spent...oh...how much on that nice set of speakers?

where did u hear that from? there are a couple of members on here who have used them, who admit that they dont like LOTS of power, and if want a set of speakers for playing REALLY loudly, these are not the speaker for that purpose

everyone's definition of F-ing loud will be different, but i hazard a guess ur definition could be quite loud, compared to others idea of what that might mean.
in which case, i would hazard a guess, and say u might have bought the wrong speakers for the job u want them to do....

If you dont have them in your hot little hands I would go with some other speakers that go effing loud. Boston Z6 or their replacement come to mind as do the DD set that phil feeds over 300wrms i believe. Bostons will be about the same as the polks but the DD will be fairly cheaper. I would feed both of these speakers over 300wrms each for the loud I think you want. Others will recommend some more that go loud. For the amp, look at a four channel with at least 150rms per channel and then bridge for 300rms each side.

Nah not yet, but it's not too late to 'pull-out' so to say.

Boston Z6 I will look into, any others in mind?

I was seriously considering the POLK MOMO, they are VERY LOUD! I gathered that the SR was of the same loudness as there cheaper companian but with enhanced SQ.

I never new that you could bridge a 4ch amp into 2 for speakers as this would run the set-up in a mono config as opposed to stero...looks like im far from right hehe...

So what others do you all think would go 'f-ing' loud?

Thanks again!

The other bostons that replace the Z6 are the SPZ60's, have a look for those too.
And bridging a 4 channel into 2 still is stereo, just to confirm.

the polk sr are not for u my friend,,

they are IMO, desinged to be enjoyed at relatively normal levels, they are in the upper echelon of detail and accuacy, but, the tweeters are very touchy, they dont like too much power, or playing too loud, and plus if you run them active and lower the crossover, though they seem fine, they begin to struggle badly... i found the limit of mine quickly, and learned to live with it...

great speakers if your an audiophile who has a quite luxury car and who listens to jazz or opera, but there not designed for cruising with em blaring...

that being said, they are fairly efficient, the woofers love to kick real hard, but the tweeter is too fragile, awesomely fragile...

look to the new bostons, or, if your gonna get a a pro install anyway, looka t getting some horns, they get fk off loud and stay composed, mate them with some cheap and sturdy woofers and your laughing...

i now own oz matrix, i chose not to purchase another set of polks due to price, and fragility...

I would change the speakers to the boston Z6's since you want something to scream and sound good wink.gif

And the amp, well jaycar should only ever power speakers below the value 500 bones IMO, seriously. If you want to get the most out of your speakers being the polks or bostons, you should seriously consider the Tru Tech copper C7 in my for sale thread, 550wrms x2 and its a pure SQ amp bur-brown chips and all.

^ That amp would make the bostons scream. DO it

jlaudio 300/2v2 very nice amp i love them.

the benefit of the 300/2 over the 300/4 is that you bridge the 2 channel for 1 x300watts rms and run two of them for your front stage...hmmm nice

if you were to get the jaycar 4 channel it states its 2x380watts rms if you really need a big front stage...but it will never fit under a seat. Installing of these $300 jaycar amps tomorrow ill let you know how good it is.

If you need to get the polks screaming loud you'l need a high X-Over point (for loud music I set mine at 100/12db) and the tweeters pretty close to your ears. I will be upgrading mine soon to a fully active setup since these things really do not like midbass at the kind of volumes I like to drive them to.

Having said that, I've got the SR6500's sounding DAMN awesome right now (Excellent stage width, height, depth, and detail) but the lack of midbass and inability to get the midrange perfect (the ONLY way is to have tiny speakers with wide dispersion, or on axis drivers from about 500hz up) is forcing me to go a different route for my day to day listening habits.

I'm going to say the same thing as everyone else here. Those speakers dont go loud.

Seriously, a good expenditure for great SQ at mind-boggalingly enjoyable levels is some entry ID horns (around ~$3/400 last I remember), and a 6channel amp (say around 1k). Not many 'not-good' 6channels out there. Ch1 and 2 pushing ~50W RMS to the horns (at more then 10x the sensitivity of a set of splits, they'll boogy) and bridge the other two channels to a simple set of PA 8" or 9" midbasses.

Small, simple, cheap(ish), VERY effective and can get VERY loud (keeping in mind you can always turn it down if its too much...)
5kw's of BASS please
I have alot to read up on. Yeah i'll look into it all! Great help as always MEA thankyou!

I previously owned a set of Polk SR6500 and while I love them as an SQ speaker, there are others which will go louder, as others have mentioned. Boston certainly don't mind a bit of grunt, Oz Audio Matrix are another, The Focal KR range will also thump. One speaker set I haven't heard, but I would imagine would go loud is the new Treo SSX component speaker, which combines a 25mm silk dome tweeter and a 14mm titanium dome tweeter (can be bought without the other). No idea what they cost, but they're well engineered and handle 200rms according to their website.

I ran my Polk SRs off an Audison LRx 5.1K which puts out plenty of clean grunt. If you need an amp to run your whole system, it's hard to go past this one. Polk's new range of amps are also good value for money, similar build quality to Focal amps.
