A mate is wanting to know whether he will get banned from Live if he upgrades to a non genuine hard drive?
RoVer™
REALLY doubt it. smile.gif

Nah you only get banned really if it's chipped or something well it was like that on the original xbox. But nah tell your mate it will be fine i think they would state that if it was the case.

Does anyone know for sure?
Like, personally done it?

cant he just re install the old HDD and get unbanned if he is banned?

I am pretty sure the biggest you can have is 120gb because the HDD is FAT16 format. There are ways around it, off the top of my head I cannot remember them but my friend google probably can remember.

I have had experience with gettin booted for having a modded xbox but you just dont get involved with online system updates etc....

You have to be unlucky...

We've both looked all over the place and can't find any definitive answers.

As for getting unbanned if he reinstalls the old drive, from what i've read no, that's not the case.
Must go on the MAC address of the NIC or something.
If anyone can confirm that, at least, it will be a start.

Yep, it's the 120gb he wants to install. Doesn't have any need to go higher.

Woody, what mods did you have for your Xbox?
And what do you mean by unlucky?
Do you mean that if you don't do X and Y, you won't get caught?

It's all pretty crappy really, he's not trying to be a pirate (he buys TONNES of legit games) just get a bit more storage space. You don't even have to crack open the console.

I'm not familiar at all with the XBox or any of its online services, I just know between everyone here, we know everything there is to know and that I WILL find an answer here eventually tongue.gif

If your 360 isn't chipped, you'll be fine.
Neon
why doesn't he just get a genuine 120GB HDD
Selfdestruktor
That will be the next step, I guess, but he got given a 120 for nothing...

Looking on Ebay, they're not THAT expensive for a genuine one.

I'm just going to tell him to read this thread, stop being such a puss and just do it! biggrin.gif
