I will be running a P3001 Rockford amp. 300 RMS.

One 12 inch sub:

12" Rockford Punch Stage 2 subwoofer
500W Peak, 250W RMS

Dual Voice Coil- Available in D4 (2 or 8 ohm operation) or D2 (1 or 4 ohm operation)
Frequency response: 26-250 Hz
Sensitivity: 86 dB

One 10 inch sub:

400 Watts RMS
800 Watts Max

Sensitivity 83 dB
Voice Coil 2.5" 4-Layer

Both will be in sealed boxes. I'm just wondering if the 10inch will sound better since I can put all 300 RMS into it?

Thanks smile.gif

With the amount of information given, it will be near impossible to tell.

Different subs will get louder/sound better than others even on the same amount of power.

We can try to give you a rough idea but we will need to know things like what brand the 10" sub is?
SPL_Lancer
I don't see any reason why you can't "put all 300WRMS into' the 12"
turbo piston
Sorry, they are both Rockford.

The 12inch is the P2 and the 10 inch is the Rockford P3.

I can put all 300RMS into the 12inch, but since its only able to handle 250RMS, will it begin to distort?
SPL_Lancer
I doubt you would be able to hear the difference between 250WRMS and 300WRMS.

As for what sub to get, why not get a P3 12"?
jas
get a 12inch

also ive heard the RF subs they are nice but i think i prefer the kicker c12 its cheaper and does a very good job

The P3 12inch would be under powered?

You mean the Kicker 12inch Competition? Actually I don't mind it, and I was thinking that too! But the rockford looks nice in black! smile.gif

yes the bottom of the range kicker c12 comp sub. Just installed one 2 days ago and im very happy with the results. Using it with a jaycar 4x100 rated @ 1 x 380watts rms into 4ohms (2 channels bridged).

the rf p3001 is rated to run best @ 2ohms so i would try and choose a single sub that will give you 2ohm load. This is why i would highly recommend a dual 4ohm sub wired in parallel to give you a 2ohm load.

wiring your dual voice coil subs

check out the rf P2D412, P3D412 both are dual 4ohm subs and designed to get the most out of your amp. The kicker comp c12 only come in 4 or 8ohm designs so it will not make the most of your amp. Maybe look at the kicker compVR12 dual 4ohm sub (its silver and looks amazing).

also do some research on box design and what your bass desires and needs will be. This will be a very large factor on how the sub sounds in your car. Sealed is more for you soundquality lover whom doesnt generally love things super loud but as ive found with the sealed box for the kicker c12 it can still go reasonably loud when pushed, enough for now to satisfy my 18yearold neighbor. Custom ported can be designed for sound qualtiy or straight out big booming systems. Box size and the sound you desire will have greater bearing on the sound of your sub than the differences between a rf p2 and rf p3!!!!

Thanks for that!

Well I'll stick to the RF range since everything else is RF in the car. I'm into RnB and Dance, mostly RnB, so would sealed be more suitable for my taste in music?

Also just wondering, will a P3 sub be ok even though they are rated at 500W RMS? Because my amp will only be able to pump in 300 RMS! Just wondering if it will be too much under powered and I won't get the best out of it? Is it better sticking to the P2?

BTW, I always thought sealed would have more boom than a ported box!

ive only experienced rf p2, p3 & T1s in sealed boxes apart from the t1 where ive heard it in both rf design sealed and ported boxes.

all sound great in sealed boxes but if you want that loud kick in the ass then the rf ported boxes might be the way to go in the future. However if the T1 is anything to go by they MIGHT (P2, P3) sound horrible in the rf spec'ed ported box.

maybe look at the P3 sub since it can take a little more power and is rated only 1 db less efficient so it should be a slightly louder sub and be able to take more punishment and power. THey both are designed to fit into the same size box so thats not a deciding factor.

id choose a generic prefab box 1.0 cubic foot (28ltrs) box to start with. Then after a few months of living with this setup tell us what you want from your sub bass and where its lacking. The P3 in a sealed box and the p3001 should satisfy your bass needs.

So you think this is the way to go?

Looks are great for about the first couple of hours, then it's only about the sound. ALWAYS go for the one that you prefer the sound of.

its very rare these days to be able to hear a product before you buy it. This is why its important to ask the forums about products that you are interested in and see if people have experienced them and enjoyed them.

I've run 2 x p2's 2 x 4 ohm coils all in parallel at 1 ohm with 750 rms using crossfire with no probs. Thats 375 rms each & 8 volt input & I drove them hard to see how they would fare. thermally they take it. Dust caps did get hair line cracks appearing after several months. Still sound good & no audible difference even with the cracks.
