im looking at tracing my family tree but dont know the best way to go about it.
apart from the births, deaths, marriages register, what else should i go for?

also is there any family tree software available (for making trees etc)?
which would you reccomend? thanks

Heaps of software and websites out there - its not cheap. Also try your local library many have services available for this

Dont bother, you will find out you are dating your cousin and wished you never new.

if anyone has done or is tracing their family tree id like to know what you have found most successful, and which sites rip you off the least etc.

my grandad was really into this before he passed away and managed to go back 5 generations which is good for us future generations to keep adding to it and pass down! I believe he was a using a program called Brothers keeper, you enter all the details in. Its free to download too.

You can download the Personal Ancestry File (PAF) which is what I've been using for my tree. Very easy to use.

Also, your local LDS (Mormon) Church can help you too. And don't worry, we wont try and convert you. Most of the people who use the resources that we have are actually not even members.
