5kw's of BASS please
Just purchased BOSTON SPZ60 splits good.gif and wanting to know your feedback if I was to purchase unsure.gif the HIFONICS ZXi 1008 to power them? Specs seen Below!

Zeus ZXi Series 2-Channel Class AB Car Amplifier
RMS Power Rating:
4 ohms: 250 watts x 2 chan.
2 ohms: 500 watts x 2 chan.
Bridged, 4 ohms: 1000 watts x 1 chan.

6-1/2" SPZ Series Component System
Power Handling:
Peak: 300 watts
RMS: 150 watts

Feedback on this set-up? System will be heavily faded to the front with the addition of speakers for a rear fill in the not so distant future faded out off the HU. Front & rear doors to be fully sound deadened aswell.

Future additions will be 2 x Polk Audio SR12 subwoofers in custom enclosure (amp to be worried about at the time of purchase), and ofcourse multiple layers of Dynamat!

Oh yeh I forgot to mention, its all going into an MY07 Impreza! (prob will need custom work)

Sounds perfect for those splits!!! You may want to turn the amp gains down a little though smile.gif

Being a 3 OHM speaker, the (nominal) impedence will potentially make the amp pump out over 350WRMS into the midbasses, which will make em a bit hot unless the high pass is set at the right point... Even then I'd be a bit wary!!! From memory, I think the crossover blocks can take up to 400WRMS, but the mids were tested until failure at just under the 500WRMS mark in the BA labs (this is going back about 2 yrs ago)... So your getting up to the limits of the speaker, which means you'll definately have to be careful. Sounding awesome to exploding is gonna be a thin line laugh.gif

On the plus side... If you set the gains correctly on your amp, it should run those babies and stay reasonably cool doing it. Z6's and SPZs can suck the life out of amps. A full range speaker that can handle a lot of power tends to stress most amps out, and make the top end sound a bit harsh as well, but if the specs on the Hifonics are correct, then it'll be a pretty hard system to beat!!!

Nice splits! If they sound anything like the Zs that is.

I have a set of SPZs I'm yet to install. Can't wait to hear them. I'll be bi-amping them with an old skool PPI PC4100 4 channel amp rated around 150w channel at 3ohm but likely quite underrated.

I decided to go the route of using a 4-channel amp to bi-amp the SPZs as bi-amping can improve the sound, some say quite noticeably, but also gives
you the luxury of turning your tweeters down quickly and easily to any level you want by adjusting the gains for those 2 channels.
Boston's tweeters can be an 'in your face' sound to some ears and can sometimes use some tweaking down depending on your install location.

Or you could even go active like s4turn.
Active allows a guy like me TOO much tweakage ability to screw things up biggrin.gif

I've heard Hifonics are making pretty good amps again.
I think it would be fine.
I prefer old skool second hand stuff meself tho. tongue.gif

No current Hifonics amp could be this beautiful and I paid $275 for this... plus 3 weeks hassle and 2 1/2 hours driving to pick it up but thats another story biggrin.gif

Haha, Good stuff! Well, I wish you the best of luck with your install and hope it all works out for you. Seems like you have it 'down pact'. As for me I'm confident I am going to get heads turning when cruising along the streets of sydney. Damn, your amp looks hot naked tongue.gif

hehe I admit I have a mancrush on it... I was gently stroking it and whispering sweet nothings in it's RCA inputs. biggrin.gif

Good luck with yours also! The SPZs running off the 300+w/channel from the Hifonics Zeus ZXi is going to rock your world.

You'll probably have yours installed before I get mine in... so come back and tell me how you like them.
