i wanna clean the throttlebody on the car

the can of the cleaner says to spray it in on the fly and the TB and then wipe with a rag or something

without taking the TB off the car, how do you get in there? would it be ok to spray and let the car run?

how do you guys do it?

cheers, Alex

What car is it?

Cleaning your TB should be a fairly simple process, just take off your air filter piping from the TB and spray the butterfly valve and everything around it. Don't spray any beyond the butterfly valve otherwise your car may not start for a while, or will be very difficult to start.

You can spray it inside your TB while the car is running, just make sure you keep the revs up otherwise it will stall.

It's probably also a good time to clean any idle control valves, PCV's, air control valves, EGR valves, etc and air filter.

The TB cleaner I use to use recommended that the car ran while you cleaned it. Spray in short bursts so you don't stall the car. If it's filthy, i'd suggest taking it off and cleaning both sides with the cleaner, tootbrush and air compressor. Is a worthwile thing to do, my old 5lt had a filthy TB, after a clean it became far more responsive.

Goodluck with it.

thanks guys

cleaned the TB, dont know if its more responsive but its definitely running better tongue.gif highly recommended
Just like music
Spray it in there with the car running.... lube up the grease. Then stop the car and clean it right out and the butterfly and all. Then start the car again and hose it down good in there with some TB cleaner and that has normally sorted me out well.

I had a '94 TR 3L and pulled off the intake manifold and heads and smoothened the ports and cleaned everything out new lifters etc, it was amazing after I did that.. car was so quick.
