5kw's of BASS please
Hi all,

I am looking at the purchase of a Viper 5002 2-way Security Car Alarm System. It is going to cost me approx $650+ to purchase. Is it worth the high price? I have a very expensive sound system going into my MY07 R Impreza and I want one of the best alarms going around.

What are the pros/cons of spending $650+ on an alarm, as opposed to $250.00 on an alarm? I don't really need remote start-up but most alarms in my price range have this feature anyway.

If you could shoot over your opinions on good alarms and there pros/conds I would greatly appreciate it. Price range is approx around $650.00 give or take. I have heard Viper is one of the best companys going around along with Mongoose?

P.S - Clifford Matrix 70.5X - Any good? My mate says "it will crap on most alarms" but f*ck it costs an arm and a leg!

Thanks in advacne, I look forward to your responses.

Firstly the most important thing is how the alarm is installed, a poor installation can lead to reliability problems (with the alarm), false alarms, not going off, car not starting and so on... So make sure it is done by a qualified installation technician.

It is also wise to check with your insurance company if they accept the paticular alarm as being Australian Standards Approved, as there is certain criteria to be adhered to in order to be A/S Approved AS/NZS 4601:1999 or higher. This might help bring the insurance premium down (depending on insurer).

You will find that the remote start feature will significantly increase the chance that your vehicle WILL be stolen as the factory immobiliser will be sacrificed as well as one of your keys in order to "pimp up " your ride so I strongly advise against remote start on any vehicle built after 2001 unless you plan to put a 3 to 5 point immobiliser in your car.

Cheers and Good Luck!

Bear in mind, in regards to remote start, it is illegal in most states in Australia as a safety measure, and I'm not 100% sure but I have heard from the grapevine that insurance may not like it, and may choose to void your warranty with it installed.
