Heya,

Bit of a useless pst, but I still have a smile on my face.

A few days ago, I bought some MD100's from brady123, and received them today. I eagerly went home, and chopped off my Polk Momo tweets and soldered the MD100's on. Now, I am still using the Polk x-over just for testing (it crosses at 2500hz, so is pretty well suited for them anyway). However, I will be running them active when I just finish my cabling.
But, back to the results.

WOW. WOW, and WOW. I never knew what a soundstage was until tonight, or the other terms like dynamic, smooth and just plain awesome. The difference the tweeters made is nothing short of amazing. The Polks were not bad, but always made me grimace at certain frequencies, even with them off axis on -6db. I probably could have tweaked them and got reasonable sound from them, but why bother, when you can get such amazing sound off the shelf.

Anyways, as I said, useless post, but I just wanted to share my joy. I never reliased quality speakers made such a huge difference, I always thought it was 50% hype and 50% real.
So I guess not I will start saving for some nice mids to replace the Momo's smile.gif

ok, back to the garage to do some tweaking

it's not a useless post - it's great to hear you've made a great improvement and are pleasantly surprised!

curiously, i consider the MD100 tweeters the weak link in the set of Dyn System240(mkII) splits! of course, they are still very good.

enjoy.

Well, he did his job tonight. I am on my 3rd pair of undies, and still going stong!

@ shinycar - ye, I can believe that, but I am sure you are comparing them to another level I have yet to hear or dream of acquiring (read:afford)

But hey, at least it gives me something to look forward to!
~Spyne~
they very well be the weak link in the 240 system richard, but that just indicates how good the midbass and xovers are.
and i would be very surprised if someone said they preferred the polk momo tweeter to the md100.

glad to hear u are happy with the purchase shizzle

so, who wants to sell me some real mids them? smile.gif

Would MW160's go well with the MD100's?
They seem to be very good mids, and I would be running them active in a 2-way system with subs.

Thanks guys
shiny_car
the MW160's are the original midbass drivers released with the MD100's as part of the System240 set of splits, so they would be a perfect match.

though, they'd work perfectly with the newer MW160GT and MW162 too.

cool, thanks for that shiny car. Would you, or anyone else have any opinions on whther the 162's are that much better, seeing as though I can get the 160's for a very nice price?

I've actually got a set of MW160GT's that I just took out, and was about to put them up for sale in the FS section. They are a fairly decent driver, and match the MD100's quite nicely.

I can vouch for this. rocker.gif

I used to have Morel MT23 tweeters, and the MD100's are better than that too, crystal clear and smooth like silk (duh!).

The MW160 are good midbass/midrange speakers, and tonally they suit the MD100 tweeters.

hey,

ye, I came close to buying some MW160GT's, but unfortunately some last minute expenses came up sad.gif

Perhaps in a few weeks smile.gif

I have a set of 362's which includes the MD142. Very nice mids indeed. Have also heard the MD100 and was extremely impressed the results, just as I was with my MD102 smile.gif
