goddam hidden "Loud" functions, and displays not giving u any indication that this ridiculous 'feature' is ON.
now i have to go back through all my eq and xovers to try and getting it sounding right, without the bloody Loud turned on (it was sounding pretty good except for boominess in the upper-sub/lower-midbass region, which i had put down to installation/door treatment
that is all.

hey, i'm happy for this pile of poo to be deleted. just needed a little rant after finding out what was 'wrong' with the system this morning
and matt's words would be good, except eclipse dont provide u with a manual when u buy their headunits - just some 6page 'user guide' that tells u jack-all about anything
the proper manual is a 200-page pdf that u have to print urself from the website

You sure your dealer hadn't just opened the packaging and forgotten to put it back in, because every Eclipse I've had has come with the 200 page book.

Some people like the loud function...

Correct. I'm one of those people.
People who think the loud button is a waste obviously dont understand EQs and gain structure properly

So does a normal parrametric EQ...
personally i tune with "loud" off
but I will use it when I have the stereo at lower levels.

How often are you driving through the suburbs going "oh my god i have so much stage depth and the percussion is way out side of my side mirrors"
im tipping not very often. When im driving through the suburbs I generally turn my stereo down - particularly when there is kids about - these are the times the "loud" function comes in to its own adding in the bottom end a bit of a peak around the 80hz mark cause a lot of the low frequency information is lost through road noise etc. this information is particularly hard to hear at low volumes when its competing against the road noise so why not give it a bit of boost and make the music more lively and enjoyable to listen to at these times rather than something that is perfect SQ.

Agreed.
Although, there are some exceptions on this forum where I can point a finger in situations like this.

Of course...if you dont actually HAVE stage depth or width to start with....

then you probably wouldnt miss it driving around....
