Great day, few new faces...

Big thumbs up for the crew at Autobarn Penrith & the judges on the day!

Congrats to all who placed in the event, keep it up!

NOW for the bone picking!

QUOTE (sonic nirvana)
Just another reminder that we simply MUST get started at 9.30 so can we all do our best to be there before 9am so we can get things organised in time.

Judges will be there at 8.30am

I would like to know why COMPETITORS are TOLD to be at event at XX:XXAM SHARP and turn up when they feel like it or what ever the reason?

Regardless what the circumstances it's NOT fair on the ones that do the right thing and make a day of it and others feel they are 'special' so to speak and have their own rules.

I'm not having a go as I had the face to face with the competitor I personally know (again, not having a go at you PC, but rules are rules). I think either the rules are their to be followed or they miss out on that event.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Also, the rules need a bit of ironing out as they are really silly to certain aspects. i.e. sub bass control. Most mid to high end decks have on board and competitors DON'T need to have a seperate one to the one ALREADY controlling the sub gain.

In my eyes, judges should be upto date with product features and SHOULD know whether a unit has a sub gain or not. That mentioned, it's beside the point anyway as the 'RULES' state that NOTHING can be altered apart from volume control use so that rule should NOT exist...

I invite others to comment on what they feel isn't what it should be. I know this might open a can of worms, but I feel that the rules don't work for the events. I might not be competing at the moment as I'm still to find time to do my system, but if I was to compete I would like a few things changed with the rules...

Take this with a grain of salt as it's the way I feel as people are not awarded points where they deserve them awarded.

Again, GREAT day, judges ROCK biggrin.gif Hopefully we get more NEW faces next event!!!

A top day.

A bit more freakin competition in Amateur street would've been appreciated mad.gif

I finally get my system where I want, set my highest score yet, and I was only competing against one car which usually runs SPL.... needless to say it wasn't the circumstances I wanted to get my first win in, but I am fairly confident I could've beaten most of those who have beaten me in the past wink.gif

I'm very disappointed that we've gone from 8 cars in Amateur Street to 2. Very disappointing, where the hell were all those who attended last comp?? What else are you going to do on a sunday afternoon rolleyes.gif

I'm still happy about my result, but I did want some serious competition so that I could see how my car compared.....

Oh well. A very fun day either way. Huge thanks to the judges and Penrith Autobarn, of course smile.gif Hopefully there will be some more competition. This was a double points event afterall, it's so ridiculous that I am pretty much guaranteed of taking out the state title, and I'm the ONLY car which has attended more than one of the three events so far.

uni assignments tongue.gif

i'll make an appearence once I get a few things ironed out in my car.

DIY tuna (tuning) on a saturday night after detailing the car probably isn't enough to warrant me competing.

neither does my front stage

anyway, sounds good... ranking and points would be nice.

thats logical, if competitors are going to have points removed for this, they should kick up a stink!

would this mean that if I compete, I should have a remote sub bass controller installed?

yeh i was 1 of da new faces there i think, as i was a bit lost, so was my friend, i had no idea what was going on and how they were judging it but it was a great experience, i saw some nice cars and some guy told me sumthing bout some part of the car so i jst nodded my head cos i didnt understand! i was da guy with the afro with the beigh skyline by the ways! but overall it was a great day! i expected 2 hear some systems but they must judge some other way, that was the 1st comp ive been 2 and i liked the cars and the system! the blue rex was nice, icacha luv ur wheels man! matchs the car great!

dat was my view on the day!

Big ups to Penrith Autobarn for hosting the event. Much appreciated.

A BIG thanks to Penrith Autobarn, and the judges for yet another great competition.

It was great to see two of the judges (Marty and Ben) cars go head to head in Pro Street. It was nearly staple guns at 20 paces. biggrin.gif

Sad to see so few competitors considering it was a double points event.

Well done mate, you've got to be mega proud with your system - seeing as though you didnt get someone else to install it (as you like to put it) hahahaha

I was planning on making some final adjustments to my system and being there today in ameteur street. Unfortunately I just started a new job a month ago, so there were a few things with pay consistency I had to sort out, so funding didnt allow any major changes.

Alas, I did upgrade my sub amp, and retuned my system, and had the car ready to go on friday. In fact, I even bought the Sheffield CD the week before smile.gif

Unfortunately, I could only get one weekend day off, and it was a choice between attending the FHRX subwoofer BBQ on sat, or the comp on sunday.

In the end, i was needed for work on sunday so i ended up going to the BBQ instead. Needless to say you dont wanna take too many days off in your first month in a new job sad.gif

It's sad there wasnt more of a showing. At No Limit the Showing was excellent, particularly in Ameteur street, and the competition is what made me want to strive to upgrade my system more (as well as a love of music of course).

Although I don't have a chance at the title right now (missed the first even also this year because my car wastn prepared), i will still try my best to make the next event.

Planning on making some of those major upgrades i had planned for this comp, so hopefully I'll be able to give you a bit of a challenge smile.gif It's all in the name of fun!

If thigns arent all up to spec by then, i'll try to make it with what ive got just for the heck of it anyways. I know its much less fun to win when it's by default.

Kudos on the sucess anyway, and im sure even if there was a higher turnout, you still would have enjoyed similar results.

If I dont have my upgraded system ready by the next comp, then i'll be making damn sure that it's right where I want it to be in time for CAASQ 2006, and this time I wont miss a comp. Will either be going pro street or ameteur depending i guess on whether I qualify for ameteur (may decide to go active).

Anyways, good to see some constructive criticism, as it often helps to improve thigns. Only way a weakness can be solved is if people are aware of it.

Sorry again I couldnt be there to make the event more interesting, as I very much wanted to be.

When and where will the next comp be held?

Cool, thanks smile.gif

May not be enough time to save for major mods, but i'll do what I can.

Most of what I have is up for comp duty, but my front stage is really my archilles heel. I'll try to get it sorted by next comp.

Also have two mates hoping to have their systems ready to go in time for the next competition.

Both systems are in planning at the moment, and i've no doubts that both will be very capable.

I have plenty of upgrades planned for my own system, but realistically 5 weeks only leaves me an opportunity to make one major upgrade, and maybe a few little ones. Gonna have to make the most on the install and tuning side of things.

If i get it sorted, then hopefully that'll be anotehr three legitimate contenders in Amerteur Street class smile.gif

If not, then both cars (as well as mine) should be in full operation in time for 2006 season.

So in other words all SQ vehicles must contain w**k knobs?

Well to bad for my system then unfortunately 5 channel amplifiers dont come with sub knobs nor do i want one. Not every amp for subwoofer use has a sub controller.

What is this an SPL comp or a SQ comp.

System should be tuned prior to judging and then judged what need do you have for a sub controller?

HypE_STi
Georgy Boy! yes i did rock up quite late to the comp, but i did notify one of the judges that i had to turn back before the M4 and get my portfolio that i left at home!

I did feel slack that i was late considering, but i checked the website, it says "do your best" to get there at X:XX time to get the comp going..doesnt say have to be here at 9:30 sharp or else we cut your hands off..relax Georgy boy! But i totally agree on the descrepencies revolving around the ease of use part of the judging sheet. that would of got me just below 200! and quite a few others a handful of points too..

What can i say i am totally stoked with my score of 195/219 1st ASHOW. Fine tuned the car myself and i guess i got it right, Took out JUDGES CHOICE aswell biggrin.gif , honestly i was as surprised as everyone else getting judges choice too!

Huuge thanks to boys down at Penrith Autobarn, they were tops. thumbs up to everyone who was there, always a pleasure to catch up with you all.

less Competitors in street? Still scratching my head, must of been exams on?

Results are up now, sorry for the delay as I had to go interstate on biz pretty much straight away.

The next event will have to be the 11th as Marty will be on his honeymoon(!) on the 18th. Venue to be confirmed.

We really DO have to get more punctual with start times. When the confirmation of next event goes up we will be talking about consequences.....I know an early start on Sunday goes against the grain but is the same for everybody.....including the judging team!

U really wanted Amature Street class to heat up, do you? I don't know what other judges are going to say. I am going to ask my brother to strip down my Zafira in Thailand. As many peole may notice that I have compete in Team DLS overthere. however, I was in the consumer class in IASCA. The street smart class is the class for consumer. It is same as CAASQ amature street and and EMMA amature Sound only. so would presume that I have no problem going in to amature street. Since the everything in the system was brought from either retail outlet or the trading post within this forum. I used to do alot of modify for my equipments but for the competition sake I will WILL NOT USE any modified equipments in my system.

How does that sound?

These are the amateur rules.
QUOTE
Amateur

The Amateur classes are the most fiercely contested. These classes are restricted to competitors not working in, or affiliated with, the Mobile Electronics industry, and no sponsorship is permitted. Any vehicle with stickers or decals promoting a brand, product or retail outlet will be considered sponsorship.

- exception: a single sticker or decal no larger than 30cm wide by 20cm high on the rear window.

Novice class judging takes place from the driver’s seat of the vehicle only, and focuses soley on the system’s ability to accurately reproduce audio.

    * Equipment modifications are not permitted.
    * The use of HLCD’s ('horns') is permitted.
    * DAC's (digital audio converters) not designed to directly interface with a head unit are not permitted.

Example: Alpine PXA-H700/H701 for use with Ai-Net head units, or Pioneer DEQ-P9 for use with DEX-P9R head unit would be allowed. Apogee or similar generic DAC’s are not permitted.
    * External processors, crossovers and equalisers are permitted.
    * Equipment and components must be commercially available in Australiaor New Zealand.

\"Commercially available\" means the product must be available for purchase within Australia or New Zealand from a retail outlet, or from a person acting as an official and authorized agent. This may be at the judges' discretion and if any doubt arises the judges may request to witness a receipt for the component in question.

As long as you fulfil all those requirements, you can enter the Amateur classes.

Oh well I do the passive design in my house. Why bother asking some other people to just solder the components together? Some components are not available from any shop in NSW So have to be order from the US. namely Alpha core inductors and cadas cap.

It make me feel very itchy to see cheap ass opamps in my new DAC (BB-OPA2134) but can not do anything to make it even better mad.gif without moving to pro. So will stay with what ever it is for now
Marc
Well this is where Judges Discretion comes into play. The idea behind Amateur class is that it is freely available equipment, off the shelf from car audio specialists / retailers.

Any custom built or modified equipment in my opinion as a judge would bump you to Pro Class, and in this case I would consider custom built passive crossovers (ie not using manufacturer supplied crossovers) custom equipment and/or a modification. Therefore, yes you WOULD be PRO class.

Sorry Golf, but Amateur is for "newish" competitors or more experienced ones with absolutely no modifications etc. Your experience obviously puts you in Pro, so I don't know why you want to try and keep getting around the rules to be in Amateur. Keep it fun for everyone and see it as a challenge for you in Pro. Pro Street would be your class of choice unless you want to do a custom install as well.
muzzy66
Actually this brings up a small interesting thing I wanted to ask also.

Any components have to be commercially availiable in australia correct?

I'm currently running with all ARC audio amps in my car, and wan't to buy a small un-powerful amp to run a set of ambient tweets - something small enough to hide under a seat, and that wont be too powerful.

Unfortunately, ARC Audio's least powerful amps are the 2100-xxk (2x100) and 4150-xxk (4x80). Both of these are IMO overkill for running ambients, and both are too big to reasonably fit under my seat.

While ARC do build 2050 and 4050 (2x50, 4x50) both amps are not officially availaible in australia. Nor is their lower end KAR range.

This means that I have two options:
1) break my 'all arc' setup
2) get an amp from the US into pro class

I clearly don't have the knowledge or experience comparable to those in pro class (i've only been really into car audio for about a year or two) so this kinda sux sad.gif

Just wondering, is there at all any 'exceptions' to this rule? I.e. since all of my other equipment was bought legitimately here in aus, then can i get away with using a relatively insignificant component (like an ambient amplifier) from the US?

I will eventually upgrade to a HXD2, so running them off the source unit is also a non-option.

Kinda seems like an odd rule to me.. because it's not like it really takes a years of experience and expertise in car audio to order an amplifier from another country.

This is not a bitch session, i'm just curious. If this would bump me to pro class, then I will just settle for an amp other then ARC for the ambients, no problems at all. Just that i'd prefer arc thats all:)
ultim8DTM5
Muzzy, perhaps you should think about the rules first.

If the product is available via special order from the Australian distributor of Arc Audio (Steve Hutchinson) then I see no problem with it.

I suggest you contact Steve Hutchinson (or your local Arc Audio dealer) and ask if its possible to get the amplifiers you wish in the next shipment.

Bingo. Australian-sourced via a dealer and delivered. No problem.
icacha
that also goes for my JL Audio 500/5 biggrin.gif

Anyone know how i could get into contact with Steve?
