Full Version: Sealed Or Reflex Enclosure For Pioneer Sub?

Hi all

I am installing a Pioneer TS-SW124D sub in my ute - thats the really shallow sub from Pioneer. On the documentation I got from the USA site there are three enclosure designs show

1. Sealed
2. Bass reflex
3. Single reflex bandpass

I am curious to know which of these would be most suitable for behind the passenger seat in a crew cab ute.

The dimensions of the first two encolsures are identical, the only difference being the second has a port on one side.

The plots of the first two are very similar, with lower 0dB crossings at 50Hz. The sealed encosure is 15dB down at 20Hz whilst the bass reflex encolsure is 15dB down at 30Hz, so the sealed encolsure drops off more slowly.

At this stage I am inclined to just go with the sealed enclosure as its simpler to make (I dont have to find a port tube) unless someone can convince me otherwise.

And while I am here, the diagrams show the material thickness as being 21mm, but when I was at Bunnings yesterday, the thickest MDF they had was 18mm. Any thoughts.
Woob
18mm will be fine, go the sealed box as itll be easiest to make, and the smallest possible box to fit into your ute.
icacha
even sealed, going off pioneers boxes isnt small biggrin.gif
