hi guys

was doing some thinkning in regerds to the system in my car at the moment, and was thinking of going active with my fron stage

im just unsure of whether it woud be worth it in my situation

i have a alpine 9815, which allows me to run an active front stage directly from the HU

i have a audison SRx2 to run the mids, and an audison Lrx2 (old school model) for the tweets

the splits are DLS 6.5" 2 ways reference series

did a search, but nothing relevant came up, was hoping if people can fill me in about the pros/cons about such a setup

it sounds good the way it is, i just want to get it souding iits best, which i dont think has been achieved yet

any help much appreciated

would i need any more units (ie.crossovers etc etc) in order for this to come feasable?

ive noticed that alot of people who run active use this sort of stuff

main concern here is that its going ot be waste of time with thr stuff i have

the amps i have dont have anyhthing like this apart from a high/low pass filter, so its not really an option...

Active set ups sound really good over their passive equivalent due to the cleaner power reaching the individual speakers without wasted frequencies being amplified as in the passive set up. i use my alpine amps which have the benifit of bandpass filter and really high low and high pass settings (up to 8khz) i think if the amp hasnt this capability then u wont get what u really want without adding some sort of passive x over anyway

With those speakers don't HP toyr tweet more than 4K. try shallow slope on the mid instead. with 9815, you will have total control which is great.

Friend of mine ran his PPI components active off his 9835 and they sounded fantastic...better than off the passives that came with the PPI's. The power in the head unit was used more efficiently to the point where the system almost sounded like it was being run off separate amplification.

X-over point was set at 3.5khz with 6db high pass slope for the tweeters and 18 or 24db low pass slopes for the mids which he ran right down to their natural role off (i.e. no band pass was used for the mids) His tweeters were placed on top of the dash with mids in the doors. Hence the shallow filter for the tweets.
If you're mounting the tweeters and mids closer together than he did, then you may want to use a steeper slope for the drivers.

Obviously, using separate amps will give much improved headroom and so I say give it a shot.
