Full Version: Tweeters To Match Morel Hybrid 8's
Mobile Electronics Australia > Mobile Electronics Discussion > Sound Quality Discussion

Hi Chaps...

I'm looking for a relatively cheap pair of tweeters to mate up to my 8inch Morel Hybrids that will be going into the kicks. Tweeters will more then likely be mounted in the sail area, so I'm not too boethered about thier size, howevere smaller tweeters make for obviously easier moutnings.

I'll probably be looking at running the crossover around 2k-3.5k depending on the combo and will be driving them from a bridged Eclipse EA3422 amp.

Budget would be around $200 max, so I've been looking at the likes of:-

Arvus 1.25dome tweet
Morel MT23
Peerless
Vifa

I'm not a fan of metal dome tweeters, prefering the laid back sound of silk domes.

What are your thoughts on these selections and possibly some I haven't considered?

Thanks muchly in advance.

Ben

You can get Total Recoil tweets - very very nice sounding silk domes
were approx $180 last I remember

... oh their site seems to have dissapeared ?

I'll get onto WES and see if they stock them smile.gif As far as i know they are the only Vifa dealers in Aust now?
DeeCee
hmm - i found the XT25's slightly brittle at the top end.. they are excellent tweeters for the price, though installation can be a hassle for those not inclined. Still suggesting the Arvus.. they are awesome for the price and have been compared to supremos wink.gif
gooki
I agree with DeeCee - havign also owned the Vifa's and curently own the Arvus and Supremo's I take the Arvus's any day of the week for SQ and ease of install.

Looking like I'm leaning more towards the Arvus' now smile.gif It's just a shame I can't find a whole lot of info about them on the net sad.gif

Just stumbled across an image, they look just like those Jaycar Super tweeters? ie much more like a 'normal' component styled tweeter then home audio...

What is the OD and depth of them?

Very tempting...
DeeCee
hmm - you can't find much info on them because there is hardly any info on them.. and the fact that Arvus have only released a car audio range this year whereas previously the equipment was custom made on demand..

I on't have any specs as of yet.. but i'm getting some new stuff soon. I can probably get dimensions if the new stuff is anything like the 2k4 range which i recently sold to a friend.

did i mention that arvus have a 10 year warrenty? smile.gif
greiggy
im going arvus possibly as well smile.gif

A 10year Warranty sounds very tempting smile.gif Burnt coils covered??tongue.gif

I priced the Vifa Xt25 at around $70/side. I think the Arvus are around $200NZ dollars? So probably $50 aust??wink.gif hehehe

What did you mean by Brittle DeeCee?
DeeCee
to my ears, some of the top end of the xt25 was brittle/dry in sound.. not smooth as you would expect of the highs around 15k.. it didn't feel that lively in a sense.. it was detailed, but wasn't as nice as i expected.
kinoshita
hey DeeCee,
r u dealer for arvus products....ive heard a few things bout them....would love to try them out.is it ok if i ask u pm me the specs for the drivers they have avaible. DANKE. biggrin.gif

btw BMWturbo, hiququon r very very good tweets man...very detailed even in the high fq range yet no harsh. typcal danish sound if u know wat i mean. u should really check them out. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
DeeCee
I am representing Arvus.. but as a sponsored car that carries Arvus product, not as a dealer or official representative.

BlackRazor who sometimes comes on to the CAA boards is the dealer for Arvus and I am sponsored by him. As he doesn't come onto these boards much and because I really do love these speakers, I thought it might be a good time to talk about them a bit more.

You have PM with specs kinocrapa smile.gif
Fudd
will the 10 year warrenty still apply in aust being that NZ is still 10 years behind us? tongue.gif

the vifa's can get a little bit harsh up the top end, i got it eq'ed out and now it aint a problem..
DeeCee
Man - you asking q's i can't keep up with as i'm unsure of all the info on.
I'll check with Dan.. geez - with this much info, i may have to set up something in australia for you all to match the interest smile.gif

As for keeping up with australians.. i'll reserve comment as you've probably heard all your dingo and sheep jokes along with the ones with about pronounciation of anything with a "y" at the end of it laugh.gif

Will keep you all informed.. will make some enquiries tonight for you all smile.gif
Fudd

Bobby I believe the Arvus tweeters retail at $200/pr. I'm not sure on postage conversion rates etc, but I wouldn't expect too much more then that landed.

The Vifa's from what I can see are around $140/pr + postage from Syd or Melb?

As for quality increase, I have no idea smile.gif
DeeCee
Considering that everyone hears different and that in some respects its like comparing red delicious apples with granny smith apples, its hard to commit a statement that says that the one tweeter is better than another..

do you get 5 times the performance out of a supremo than a vifa XT or DC series??
what doyou define as performance? do you have a quantifier as such wink.gif

price point wise.. the Arvus is competative, considering that Gooki has the supremos and has done listening tests with the Arvus, Supremos and whatever else he has in his cupboard of car audio goodness, i'd take his word over mine as I haven't had the chance to listen to the supremos whereas he has and i can only compare the arvus to tweeters i have listened to.

here are the specs that i have been provided:
QUOTE
Arvus 1.25" tweeter - 2005 model
Our 'Go Pricing' : $199 per pair
Power Handling : 70wRMS continuous sine
Frequency Response : 1.5kHz-50kHz +/- 2dB
Standard Impedance : 16 ohms
Sensitivity : 95dB 1w/1m
THD : 0.3% @ 5wRMS -> 0.8% @ 10wRMS -> 1.5% @ 50wRMS
Fudd
NXMC85C4PB
NZ$200 is not to bad, 16ohm eh

would like to have a listen though..

tell em to send some over (and the mids) and we will put a review up (soon as the review section is done...)
DeeCee
hmm.. i'll check back with the boss laugh.gif
PM me some details on listening and review criteria and also who will be doing the reviews

cheers

Dave

If someone buy's my supremo's for $750 I'll include a new pair of Arvus tweets free of charge (no i'm not a dealer, the arvus's will be out of my own pocket).

Can't complain about that - two of the worlds best tweeters for the price of one. Test compare and then sell the ones you won't be installing. My money is you'll be selling the supremo's like i'm tryign to do.

By the way these are my current one 2003 model:

They're the older mini Arvus tweets, newer ones are larger but nowhere near as big as the xt25's or the supremo's. I know they;re small, but the sound that comes out of such a tiny tweeter is simply superb.
DeeCee
i thought the supremos were going in the SPL lada?? though the supremos would cost more than the car laugh.gif
greiggy
i WILL be the first in aus with arvus components ( have to start small..... expensive hobby.....) so im only getting the tweeters first biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Yep, 10 year warranty will still apply in Aus, i'd get a bit shifty about supporting them in Malaysia etc as its a bit too far away, but Aus is just across the ditch.

If theres enough interest, i'd be happy to organise a bulk buy for Arvus tweeters etc, so long as someone responsible on the Australian side is happy to take the shipment and organise delivery smile.gif

The 2005 Arvus tweeters dont look anything like Gooki's ones, they are in an open dome mount now... i'll post a pic tonight smile.gif
Blackrazor
Pricing update :

If you can find 5 or more people who are interested in them, i can do them for $175AUD per pair, plus whatever it costs to deliver them, but they're small and i'd ship to someone in bulk who could then post them locally, so i cant imagine the total cost to you going over $200AUD smile.gif
Fudd
oi none of that!

CAA forbids "group buys" tongue.gif

get em to set up a dealer in aust!
Blackrazor
Ah, ok, fair enough, your loss not mine wink.gif

We may have plans in the works in that regard anyway smile.gif
Fudd
rules are rules sorry, if way say yes to one we have to say yes to em all...
DeeCee
geez - i tell the boss and then theres moves into aus.. haha
dealers in aus?? watch that price go up and up!!

No moves Dave, i've just been approached by someone in Aus interested in on-selling them on a small scale basis smile.gif
DeeCee
i'll let you sort that out then.. save me some time biggrin.gif
*fires a couple of PMs off pointing everyone to Dan*
