Ok I have a 1979 RA40 Toyota Celica LT Coupe... such a cool lil car... anyway... i need to install the following gear, but i need a list of wiring n stuff to get first as i only have the "Hardware" ie HU, Splits ect. I guess im after somewhat of a wiring diagram aswell...
I have...
Kenwood KDC-MP6029 HU
Blaupunkt GTA 450 amp
Jaycar Kev. splits
Jaycar 10" DVC sub
and thats all... and wat came in the boxes...
I'm going to custom build the Pods (F'Glass) and Sub Box (18mm MDF, ported box) myself, I just want to know also... what is the sound stage (im guessing where the sound hits u?) and where should I aim it to be(im guessin at ur face?)...???? also... Fire the sub toward the rear of the car or into the cabin?
what i think i need...
Sound deadener
wiring, fuses ect
18mm MDF... WHERE CAN I GET THIS WITHOUT PAYIN $33 or $44 non stock fee????
anything else u guys can think of?
I wanna make this a SQ-ish setup, not BOOM BOOM DOOF DOOF.
Cheers guys.

the sound stage is basically used to explain the concept of "where the sound APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM".
Just like if you were at a concert, the stage would be in front of you, probably a little above you.
So in the car, imagine an imaginary stage around you.
Use this to describe what the sound is doing. Is it above you? does it feel like the stage is below you?
If the sound stage is "low"...you feel as though all the music is coming from about chest height, or your feet.
if the stage is high, you feel like the sounds all coming from above you.
if the stage is biased to the left, you feel as though the musics coming mostly from the left.
If its "full", the sound appears to be coming from all around you... if its "distanced" it appears to be coming from specific points, maybe feeling like theres nothing in the middle of the stage.
Its all a little vague.
Different people like different things from their sound stage, some like it at chest height, some like it around head height, some like it clear and piercing, some like it slightly muffled. Its all up to personal preference.
so, aim to angle the big woofers up, and slightly rearward, put them in all nicely, and then you get to start playing with tweeter positioning.
from what i understand, woofer positioning doesnt make as big a difference as tweeter positioning, unless you have the two drivers far apart..... Things like crossover points can affect all this.
with regards to the sub positioning, the best location for SQ tends to be at the rear of the boot, facing the back of the car, however every car is different, so again, play around. I can notice a difference in bass level depending on where my box is.
Welcome to the world of tuning.

Ring Brimmswood at Yeronga and ask about 'Cover Sheets' They are around $11 each.. but you have to sort through them and collect them yourself.
If your on a budget you will get away with 16mm MDF. 18mm would be nice but its not as essential as you might think, all depends on how you build the box really. Try bunnings for mdf.

Get them to cut it for you, very handy. My box took the better half of a day to construct, for my bro's we walked in with the exact measurements bourght the mdf, got it cut and only had to assemble it at home.
