Hey I just bought 2 sets of alpine Type R 6.5" splits and was wondering how good they are meant to be?
Personally I listenned to them and liked their sound a lot but I am just wondering at how they are classed in the audio world?

They are respected...
They have a very strong midbass sound to them... punchy as hell!
Good splits for the dollars you pay smile.gif

why 2 sets?? probably woul dhave been better spending the combined $$$ on a single set o higher end splits?

i thought the tweeter was the weakspot. pretty tinny and hollow sound to me. i didnt like them at all. good for electronic music but

and also
power them well
mine started to shine once we gave it decent power

I bought 2 sets so I can put one set in the front and one in the back.

I thought it would be a good idea to have even sound from back to front.

What amp would be good to run them???
shiny_car
a good quality amp with 40~60WRMS per channel would be ideal. you could justify anything from $300~800, beyond which i'd say you're overcapitalising.

for car audio, like home audio, having the sound 'infront of your ears' is ideal, and not from behind. as such, rear speakers don't feature highly in most enthusiasts' systems. however, each to their own, and many people enjoy sound from behind (i find it unnatural).

in the scheme of things, i consider the type-Rs as decent midspec level speakers but nothing outstanding. having said that, they're good. it's pretty easy to make good speakers, and much harder to make really great speakers, so at this pricepoint, they're few and far between. you'd need to spend significantly more to have significantly better.

Good splits yeah. Punchy midbass, clear fairly natural high frequencies. Balance isnt quite as neutral as it could be (slightly forward) and these definately arent the last word on detail, but for the price they do a lot of things well and very few badly.

Alpine speakers are famously wamer sounding than others so depending what music you play, it might sound a bit bright.
