installed alpine 6.5"type r slpits in front doors, on pods and packed out with mdf running down whole length of door, solid mounting i think. because they are packed out and on an angle i only cut a small hole in door for clearance and for wires, I was just worndering if they would sound better if i cut a 6.5" hole in the door to allow more air around the back of them, the hole is bout the size of two 50 cents, and the speaker is pretty tight in the pod i guess you could say that they are in a sealed box (apart from small hole) bout 1 litre of air round them.

Should i cut a big hole or even seal them up better?

i reckon they'll be fine smile.gif

might even improve the bass !

Sound deaden your doors and try to your best ability to seal up any holes. Turn your whole door into an enclosure for your midbass and listen to the improvements wink.gif Avoid hacking into the door, if need be a new pod in order to suit the depth of the Type R mid. Otherwise, put a spacer inbetween the pod and the speaker and just either carpet the pod or revinyl it, if you can....

Hope this helps, but if I didn't explain myself properly, please say so, sometimes my english aint the best tongue.gif

Tiger,
you say to use the whole door as an enclosure.
to do that i would have to cut a big hole to make that happen

As you may know the depth of the speaker is pretty big, i've packed out 24mm beheind the pod so that the speaker only enters the door bout 2-3mm. thats why i've only cut a small hole bout 25mm X 40mm for wire and little clearance for speaker.

should i plug up that hole and use the pod as a sealed box? (Verry small volume) or should i open it up and try my best to seal the door?

i'm not looking for breaking any records i just want clean, crisp, pure clarity. for all kinds of music not just doof doof (which i beleive is for posers)

i'm planning on getting dynamat extreme when funds allow.

When you sound deaden a door completely, it dramatically improves the sound and feel of your midbass frequencies... alot more punchier and cleaner. So you block up all the service openings on the door with either 3 mm ply or cardboard and apply SD over the top of it. (This is extreme sound deadening though.. but worth it)
But I would block up the little hole behind the pod

IMHO i would open that hole up a bit after you s/d the doors and block off the service hole as tigeress suggested

I have type r speakers and making a hole in the pods and venting it into the door was the best thing i did. It improved the bass and midrange sound alot because these speakers need a large enclosure to sound good like the inside of a door not just a small pod the size of the speaker. My pods didn't enter the door space at all just screwed onto the door card but stuck out a fair bit as i didn't want to cut a dirty big hole in the metal of the door.
