Hi everyone,

Looking into what cable to use in my setup both power and signal.
Was kinda interested in audison cable but can't find any info on it and anywhere that sells it. Anyone know where i can get it from?

Also was thinking about using home hifi speaker cable and maybe even interconnects from QED & van den hul. Is there going to be any problems caused using hifi cable in a car? Is this gonna be overkill as i know with home hifi its best to budget 1/3 total system cost on cable.

Cheers

try marty (fhrx) for audison cabling. I think its $123 for the 8 guage wiring kit, i was going to get it but he was all out so i just went for the 8 guage stinger wiring kit (cost me about 180)

Yes, you will get serious issues using home hifi cable in your car. Car audio amps ouput a lower voltage, higher current signal to your speakers than home audio amps. Home hifi cable isn't built to withstand this increased current without producing the dreaded skinning effect (this can be heard in the form of high frequency distortion).

Stick to a well know caraudio cable manufacturer such as Audison, Stinger, or Fusion. They make the best cables for the car audio market.

Now to turn off the sarcasim/bullshiet. Cable is cable, spend what you have to, to get the job done properly but not a penny more. For speaker and power cable the most important aspect is is it of the correct size (guage) so there is negligable resistance when the highest amount of current is being put though. For RCA's the most important thing to look at is the quality of the connectors.

I would feel thoroughly ashamed of myself if i attempted to get you to spend 1/3 of your system value on cables, because that would be pure and simple extortion.

Its as foolish as convincing someone to spend 1/3 the price of their car on a cam belt

since we have road noise and the fact that we dont sit in the middle of the car i recommend other areas to spend money on first.

sound-deadening is the most important step. If you can reduce road noise you will gain dynamic range.

Yeah thanks for the advice.
While 1/3 of budget would be overkill in a noisy environment like a car with all the forms of interference and background noise i'd still like to get a nice clean transparent sound from the cable. I was planning on going bananas with sound deadening biggrin.gif

I didnt know Bananas made good sound deadener. Hmmmm might have to try that.
