Full Version: Which Amp?

Guys Im betting two 12" RF subs P212S4 and building a sealed enclosure for each of them with the RF recommended volume of 0.85 cubic feet.

The RMS of these subs is 200w, so I was going to get an RF P3001 amp which is 1x300w and 2ohms. Now we all know RF amps are underated so Im guessing it will actually be alot closer to 1x400w.

Now this sounds ideal for my subs, however Ive heard a couple of times that for a small sealed enclosure I should possible 'over-power' the subs so they get enough.

Should I get a P4004 instead which is 2x200w @ 4ohm, knowing that they're underated and possibly closer to 2x250w

I dont really want to get a P4004 because its a physically larger amp and Im already short of space (whole system going behind seats in a Falcon ute F6 Tornado)

Which amp should I get for a small 0.85cubic feet sealed enclosure?
Ive heard so many good things about the P3001 that Im thinking this will be fine since its closer to 1x400w most probably.

Get Car Stereo Australia, out with Hot 4s this month, it reviews quite a few amps, it might help.

I'd go toward a D class, you'll get more power for the money, they're normally physically smaller, and they draw less current.

Cheers mate, Ive been thinking about this too and think I'll go that way.

So another question... 2x 200w RF subs with a 500w amp, will that be too much? The enclosure will be a recommended 0.85ft^3 sealed box.

Im looking at the JL Audio 500/1 that a member is selling here.

Its better to have more power than less. Worst case senario you just wont be useing the full potential of your amp, but the power will be there if you ever need it.
