Hi all i am a bit of a newbie to the site but have been playing with car audio for the past couple of years. Where i live there is not much of a range or experts os that is why i have come here.
My question is i have been told a couple of times that if the sub if facing towards the back of the boot that you will have a higher SPL and poor SQ while if the sub is facing inwards to the driver that you will get better SQ but lower SPL. I believe this to be false but then i know nothing.
I know there are a number of other factors like wiring, box dimensions that effect SQ and SPL but i just want to know if direction has any impact.
Thanks for your opinions and expert knowledge.

Generally speaking, you get a higher spl reading when the subs are facing the back.
Personally, a few years ago I had a set of Pioneer subs that sounded better facing forward than rear, but was louder facing the rear.
The sound quality difference wasn't huge, but was slightly noticeable.

Yeah thanks Stooge, i didn't know that facing the subs backwards is called rear loading. I'm learning more from this site each day.

Have a fiddle try putting ur box in different positions mine is facing from one side across to the other. Thats where i found it sounds the cleanest, and i'd hazard a guess that it might be loudest that way i couldnt really tell as far as volume went but i definitely noticed the difference in sound. But thats my car and my sub.
