i have no idea how to network
is it as easy as buying a network cable (cat5?)and hooking the 2 computers up?

can i share internet connection (dial up) between the 2 computers?

thanks

what operating system? do you have a hub/switch?
Mr_Bob
you'll need an internet gateway/router or a product called wingate. (or equivalent)
to share the internet connection,

to network them you need the cable and a bit of setting up in windows.
Sigmeister
Just buy (or make) a crossover cable. One end in one computer, the other end in the other, can't be any simpler than that. Other than making sure network settings are correct
MrMonaro
Yes you can do it without a hub and yes you can share the internet. If you have any problems PM me and i'll sort ya out
The first thing you need is the network cable, if you dont have a hub you will need the normal cat5 (RJ45) cable, but it has to be crossover cable, its different to normal stuff.
Give both computers the same domain , IP's such as 10.15.13.1 and 10.15.13.2
go into your "my computer" right click your drives and share them. And should be good.

as long as the computer doing the internet sharing has windows 98se or newer, you can use Internet Connection Sharing from within windows and a crossover cable to link two pcs. any more and youll need a hub... a crossover cable should not be more than $20. look at the online help for ICS for more info, its easy to setup.
MrMonaro
windows'es internet sharing program in my opinion sucks the big one. Wingate, or Winproxy - i recommend winproxy can be used. You can download a tiral version from either of their websites

whats the best way to go
-buy a router/switch/hub?
