i new this was going to happen. the trip to and from maroochy warned me about them. god damn weekend drivers suck!

sunday late morning driving brother to uni, on the main road of the uni grounds car pulls up and indicates left (as though its stoped and letting off passengers), i stop behind the car and wait for the car to take off again (about a car length space)... the car in front (late model magna) then puts the reverse lights on and backs straight into my stationary car!!! i mean, i see reverse lights, magna starts to reverse, i say to myself ok, you should see my car my now, half a seconds passes, they don't stop, i grab for the hoon, work the horn for a good burp (1.5 seconds ) and then bang...

minor damage to both cars. my bumper is a bit scratched up, and has broken off a couple of it's bolts that hold the thing on, so the bumbers half hanging off the car now....

lady gets out of passenger and son gets out of drivers side. ripped gets out of his car as well shaking his he... the lady goes..

"did you see me? i was parking!".
ripped: um, yeh i saw you, didn't you see me i was right behind you.
lady: you didn't give us enough space to park
ripped: i didn't know you were parking, you just indicated left and then all of a sudden backed into me.
lady: didn't you see my reverse lights?
ripped: didn't you hear my horn?
lady: you didn't give us enough space to park, we needed to go in on an angle
ripped: (knowing how to do a reverse park). yes, but you just backed into me, i thought you were just pulling over.
lady: it's your fault, we have to exchange details
ripped: (stunned). what!!?? you reversed into me, i had no where to go.
lady: you didn't give us enough space.
ripped: look, i'm going to let the insurance deal with this, they will sort it out.

we exchange details and then they take their god damn park and i drive off. bloody idiots, hitting my car is one thing, then blamming me for the accident, now that just going over the top. i phoned my insurance, the dude laughed and said in no way was i at fault. i concer. anyway, there is only minor damage, but i'm still going to get it done threw insurance since they have pissed me off and accused me of being at fault. now i'm not going to have a car for a week

Yeah, definitely not your fault. Stupid woman, its like saying 'I ran into that parked car and it was his fault cos it wasn't parked straight'.

Something about magna drivers at uni, I had one run into the back of my car when I was stopped at the roundabout...

Make sure to take out the sub box before taking the car in to the insurance company...
Macca
If your in reverse and you hit somthing 99% of the time ITS YOUR FAULT!

They should have herd your horn, it worked for me on friday when some one nearly reversed in to me.
SupaSwift
This is freaky, a mate of mine had a magna reverse into him as well, while he was stationary?? And this driver did the same thing, went a bit nuts, i seen the whole thing, i was thinking " That car has to see him, his right behind them......okay stop NOWWW" BANG!!! Was a little damage to both cars, nothing serious, just scracthed paint.

So your not alone in your pain mate, my mate is in the same sack. Some people just have to learn to use there bloody mirrors.

Hope everything works out for ya
DrEvil
A guy at the site i was working at today backed his brand new Merc up into a concrete pillar
SomeFReaK
make sure that your insurance company doesn't make you pay an excess, since its not your fault, they should charge your excess (incl. age excess) to the other driver
Shmi
sorry to hear bout the car, ppl dont look where they are going any more. yeh go to insuurance stuff her insurance rating if she cant admit she is wrong.
Bodyjar
Now thats some funny crape!

Speaking of the trip to maroochy, I thought I was being attacked by Astra drivers, there were 3 silver ones following me ALL the way back to brissie!
WRXCORE
Eeer wats it got to do with weekend drivers? Just cause it happened on the weekend? Most accidents happen during peak hour traffic.

Well that is silly even if by some freaky chance u didnt let them reverse, doesnt give them the right to run into the back of u they should of waved you threw.

Rule no1 of car accidents never admit your at fault hahaha, thats wat the lady did, im sure she knows she is at fault but will try anything to get out of it.
Jimbo
you know what the worst thing is, if she tell her insurance company that you hit into her, u'll have to cop the blame if there is no witness...

lets hope she is honest, as there alot of arseholes out there.

some old fu(ker ran a red light and smashed into me then blamed.. lucky i had a witness... AAMI were good about it until they tried to cancel my policy come renewal time
XHELL
Hmm, not good, there wasn't a camera crew near by with Australia's worst drivers on the truck??...

I see it all the time working in the city, I always ask if they want a witness if I see it all.. Even see people back into another car when reverse parking for example, they bang the other car, then just drive off and find another park..

Let us know how you go rippedskin. That's pretty rude. I've seen a couple of dodgy Magna drivers. Gives us a bad name. Hope it's not genetic!
ripped
my brother was in the car. i was bloody stationary! closer inspection shows that the bumper is dead, and paint work damaged to my boonet. luckily the opel badge and grill is still intact

lancerman, i'll take the sub box out, might even take the opel grill off as well
raziel
bugger
that truly sux . good point by somefreak - make sure they don't hit you for the excess ... but at least you didn't admit to any fault (insurance companies hate that)

bj
add a silver accord as well - I passed you too

Lotus tuned and a thumping 17 second quarter mile and you couldn't swerve an old bird doing 5km/h in reverse?
ripped
gordo, there was about a car length gap between the cars, i let her move a little in reverse before i realised that she didn't see me. but that stage only a few meters between the cars. if i was to hit reverse (only direction i could go) i would have had to check my mirrors to see if any cars were behind me, change into reverse (it's quite difficult to do this in the lotus cos you have to pull the level up and bang her all the way to the left), then hit reverse. in other words, i was just outta time to do all that. the next best thing was to hit the horn and prey the fool would stop...

anyway, i handed the car in to aami's valet service this morning. expecting a call from them this afternoon telling me the expected completion date.

HAHAA
good call!
MrMonaro
As i see it, Whoever reverses into someone is at fault!
seriously she needs a good ***** slap to get herself back to reality@!
Mr_Bob
she may claim that you ran into the back of her, and that you weren't stationery.
your brother doens't count as a witness.
i hope she says that oyu didn't leave enough room to let her park, and that she can't confirm that you were moving at the time.
Oppressa
rippedskin, so what's happening now? Her insurance is paying you?
Another KIWI
some guy did a u-turn right into the side of my mums lancer the other day in melbourne......i wasent in the car but my mum was....guy got out and they exchanged details except that my rather nieve mother believed he was giving a true name and that he just didnt have any ID on him....then forgot to take down his rego plate!

her car, she's gonna have to live with it!
ripped
yeh, it looks like she's oaying for the damages. when i dropped the car off i didn't have to pay an excess. my car was stationary, end of story. her word against mine. i mean think logically...

either way, my insurance will take her to court if she disputes it. the beauty of comprehensive insurance if she does dispute it, all i have to do is draw a diagram of what happened and send it to the insurance. but she has to be insane to dispute it, clearly she is in the wrong.
Phat 33
Thats no good at all...

Worst comes to worst - they will be able to tell if she was in reverse by the blown filliments in the lights if they were smashed in the acco. Would just prove she cant drive...
NUTTTR
LOL, on the way to work this morning the chick that sits opposite me got wiped on the freeway........ some guy changed lanes, straight into the side of her...... ROFL, then he gets out and goes "why don't you watch where you are going"...... she's luckly someone else was in the car..... the guy admitted fault after being put in his place...... god some people are stoopid
Another KIWI
i remember seeing some "accident pack" somewhere a while ago that contained things like chalk, pen/paper, disposable camera etc. I might look at making myself up a similar kit.

OMG! the nerve of some people...

ok, the insurance called me up this morning, the cars getting fixed and should be ready tuesday, fair enough.

then this afternoon, the lady calls me up. she's like sayin:
lady: "i got a letter from your insurance. why are you doing this?"
ripped: you ran up the back of me.
lady: you said at the time there was no damage to your car, and you ran into us.
ripped: when i got home i found that there was more damage then first though so i took it to my insurance to deal with. i was stationary when i was behind you. (in a calm voice)
lady: you couldn't have been, you didn't give us enough space to park!
ripped: i didn't know you were parking
lady: clearly we were parking, everyone was parking.
ripped: *rolls eyes* (i wasn't, i was just dropping my brother off ) didn't you hear my horn
lady: no, i didn't hear any horn. i guess you are going to say you used the horn.
ripped: i used the horn (in a calm voice)
lady: i'll have to take this up with the traffic police.
ripped: (in a sarcastic voice) ok.

what is her problem? it's not my fault, they ran into the back of me! if somehow this get reversed into being my fault, i am not going to be impressed!!!
basic124
she says "i guess you're going to say you used your horn" as though THAT would be the thing that made it look like she was at fault... haha.. but seriously, make sure you dont leave that out if it goes to teh cops..

besides, if she REALLY thought she was in the right, why hasnt she put in a counterclaim??

way it looks though, shes not trying to screw ya, she just knows she'll get screwed over and was probably of the impression that you'd settle it without insurance companies (somehow...)

good luck dude, seems it'll go in ur favour anyway...

Umm, did she run into your rear or front?

Rippedskin, do not speak with her. Tell your her your insurance company is dealing with it and that she should speak with them. It is not good from an evidentiary point of view to be speaking directly with the other party.

AAMI is great with their claims. I have had 2 and both times they stood by my side even where the other party started making up stories. They take care of everything relating to the claim and you don't have to have contact with anybody.

Also, any threats about 'talking to the traffic police' you should laugh at, really, the police aren't going to care, its a civil matter. Think about it this way, I had an accident at uni where the Landcruiser driver wasn't looking and crashed into me head on, wrote off my car, damaged a few parked cars. He could have killed somebody. The police showed up, nothing came of it. He even had the audacity to say he was going 10km/h and it was partly my fault!
SomeFReaK
Lancerman is correct, dont communicate with them, point them in the direction of the insurance company. I had the situation where i had a lawyer call and start abusing me for running into a persons car that i was envolved in an accident with. I told them to talk to my insurance company. I never heard anything more. They can and probably will use anything you say as evidance if they get the opportunity. It sounds like this lady isn't being paticularly good about the situation to start off with, it is ALOT better for the insurance company to handle her and the situation, they do it everyday.

Throw a brick through her window
XHELL
Agreed, its too easy for her to record your conversation, hell I do it for work sometimes.

Next she'll be knocking on your door....

Um, isn't it illegal to tape phone calls without both parties knowledge and permission except if it's a police tap? If she tapes your calls you could sue her for this and the recordings would be inadmissable (although someone with legal training might be able to give a better opinion of this).

if she calls again i'll tell her to look up aami in the yellow pages.

but the stupidity of some people. i was stationary, her car reversed into the front of my car. how on earth she can blame me for being at fault is beyond me. to tell you the truth, if she just got out of the car and said sorry, didn't mean to do that, i prolly wouldn't have made a claim with my insurance and lost my car for a week. but since she started accussing me of being at fault just made me angry. so i just said to myself, stuff her, she can pay for my damages.

knowing her, she's prolly going to start spreading stories about how much of an asshole asian drivers are (i'm chinese) to everyone she knows.

Yeh i dunno what the problem is with little aggressive women.
my sister had one run up her ass at the traffic lights (when they were RED) and pushed her 2 metres into a landrover. she got out and started abusing my sister and then started to say she didn't do the damage to the front of my sisters car or to the landrover (it didn't have any damage). cos this woman was carrying on so much the fella in the landrover ended up driving off b4 my sister got the chance to speak to him get his details and rego as a witness.
the silly ***** meanwhile didn't realise the damage caused to her own car let alone my sisters. she ended up makeing a claim to fix her own car but it took nearly a year for my sister to see any payment of her damages, not to mention having a daggy smashed up car for all that time which was barely drivable

some ppl are just so inconsiderate

"Its a 2 tonne ****ing truck, its not like its a packet of ****ing peanuts is it"
"It was on a funny angle"
"When you reverse things come from behind you Tyrone"

Was her name Tyrone ?

I hope this stupid old lady somday stumbels upon this thread, adn realizes how much ppl dont like that kind of behaviour. ARG it makes me mad just thinking about the stupidity of some drivers, i like the call about the brick. You should put that plan into action
audible
you really have to watch those kind of accidents. people will lie to the cops in the report to try and shift the blame.

it was some time ago when i saw this exact same kind of prang on peir street in perth. bloke missed a driveway, stopped, reversed, bang, into stationery car behind.
couple of weeks later i got a phone call from mister plod, asking if i saw the prang, which i said i did.
turned out, bloke who reversed, lied and said the person behind ran up his tail. naturally, person behind said other wise. the onus was that the cops would have to believe the guy in fronts story, as it was the most probable, and the person had to prove that he reversed into them, and not the other way around, thats when they remembered a gold coloured sigma that cruised past the accident with a booming stereo and a plate that said audio.... something. mister plod did a plate search, found mine and rang on the hunch and bingo. an independant witness.

mister plod asked me if i would be prepared to say that in court, but it never came to that. a second call to ask me in to sign a stat dec because the cops wanted to charge the guy who lied about the prang.

it was lucky that the passenger remembered my distinctive car!
