hey guys. Having some problems with my setup, i installed it about a week ago.
Sometimes when i'm listening to music i get loud crackles and pops and just loud static noise from my tweeters. It's not completely random as if i hear it, then skip back a couple of seconds it'll occur at exactly the same place.
What could be the problem ? I spent a crapload on wiring and am using the stinger wiring kit. Could it be the contact that the wire has on the tweeter metal thing ?
I cant figure out why its doing this, and the static pops and crackles sound horrible

try the same track on another system like a home one and listen to see if it happens in the same spot. maybe the recording...

what brand of tweeters?
cyrax83

they are boston pro60's
brand new only been used for about a week.
I'm trying to think what it could be but can't figure it out. The only possible 3 things i can think of are :
1) My battery connection at the terminal. I've put the connector at the end of the wire and thats connected onto the bolt at the terminal, but i haven't basically crimped the connector hard down onto the wire. Although i'm quite sure that it's making good contact because it was quite tight in there.
2) The connector onto the tweeter. This is a long shot because its happening on both tweeters and i'm pretty sure i wrapped it around the metal connector securely.
3) Perhaps my headunit. Another long shot. It's quite old but was top of the line about 5 years back. It's in 100% working condition so i cant understand why this would be the problem but anyway.

see if they have iron filings in them

try and remember EXACTLY how you installed them and see if you did something wrong in the installation...

what are iron fillings mate ?

you know the grill?
take it off CAREFULLY and see if there is metal filings in the cone of the tweeter...
cyrax83

well i basically saw the tweeters without the grill when i was installing them. I'm not sure about a metal filling in the cone of the tweeter, all i really saw was an aluminium dome and thats about it ...

edit: disregard that...
take them back to where you bought them from and let the shop have a listen to them and see if its a warranty issue or a user fault...

try hooking up a different deck/ source to your speaker amp... for some weird reason.. maybe ur headunit (maybe even amp) has just died..
cyrax83
Sep 23 2005, 10:35 PM
i installed them myself (my first installation too to be honest).
It can't be the amp because it's a brand new audison srx3 amp which i installed with them.
It could possibly be the headunit, but thats a bit of a long shot ...
The cabling is stinger so i dont think its that

The song
Pitbull - Oye
towards the end has a speaker crackling noise..i have tested this out thats why i change tracks towards the end of that particular song..so it is a possibility if checking wires does fail on you..

wrong crossover point for the tweeter? is this only occur when you turn your system loud?
cyrax83
Sep 25 2005, 12:48 AM
yeah it pretty much only happens when i turn the system loud, although its not like i'm turning it loud to blow your ears off, even when i turn it at a comfortable listening level to me you can still hear it.
i thought it might have been my dodgy ground, so i changed the ground and took it for a test run, it may just be me but the static and pops occur less frequently, although it's still there. it might just be my imagination though as it usually gets worse the longer i drive the car till a point where i cant even turn the music up because its full of static. i only took it for a 10 min run then.
man wtf is going on =/
