Please does anybody have any idea if it is possible to do anything to scratched CDs to make them play better?

I lent my car o my BF for 4 weeks and forgot to take my CDs out - now they are all scratched to the s*ithouse. Heaps of them I am going to struggle to find again, and even more are DJ demos which I have been trusted with by my boss.

Ive heard of toothpaste but I'm too scared.

Any ideas?

I heard oil does the trick, havent tried it. There are some kits out there that try to fix them.

What I have done on a number of occasions is take your CD's to your local video store (try and go to a bigger merchant chain like Blockbuster etc) and if you can, get your CD's repaired on their machines that they have for cleaning! You will probably have to know someone that works there, or someone that knows someone else, but the results are good, and from memory it only cost me $5 for all the CD's that I wanted! Has to be worth a try.

The other thing that you can do is get a new boyfriend that respects your property LOL!

yeps, go and make your B.F find the cd's.

can u buy those CD protector thingies that are on some rental DVDs? ive noticed lately when ive rented dvd's that they have this clear, hard coting on them and they seem to work, the disks arent scratched at all. If you could buy them thatd be awesome, or would they be put on specially for rentals?

those protective covering thingys have been around for a while now
they just never took off

sanity used to keep them

they werent cheap, but that said, neither is a $40 copy of minority report.

Best bet is to burn cds u put in the car
thats what i do
or burn cds for people instead of lending

but re: the car, ive heard of the blockbuster method before, but theres companys too that fix cds. Otherwise, find someone with an insanely high quality cd drive and get them to rip them for you and re-write them

I'll give the Blockbuster thing a try I think.

Normally the CDs in my car are burnt, but these were left in there by mistake, my own fault.

For those who suggested it, getting a new BF is something I'd rather not have to think about!

eMitch - yeh ur right. My uncle owns a Blockbuster and he has this cool machine that repairs all their scratched DVD's. One time I borrowed a DVD from there and it wouldnt play - si took it back and he fixed it on the spot - takes like 10 seconds or so...was like brand spankin new again.
If u get charged - the worker will prolly just pocket the cash for themselves. Kinda like the time when I got charged for movies when I should get em for free - guy just shoved the money in his pocket. hehehe - he got the ass! for trying to charge me for movies at my own relatives store.
