hi guys i have just recently bought an alpine 12" type x and a Alpine MRD-M1005 mono block amp. 1000Wrms @ 2ohms @ 14.4V

the inputs can take up to 4AWG and the outputs of this amp can only take up to about 6AWG (8AWG fits easily however 4AWG will not fit at all)

considering the power that this sub requires 1000WRMS (500 per coil), would 8AWG be too small?

8 gauge is heaps you won't even need that! biggrin.gif

speaker output is if i remember correctly, low current/high wattage while power wires are high current/ low wattage. Thus the need for large cables.

And the speaker wires arent going to be exceptionally long too compared to power cables.

um, current and wattage are the same thing rolleyes.gif

power wire carries low voltage/high current DC voltage.

speaker wire carries high voltage/low current AC voltage.

anyway, anything bigger than 12ga is overkill for speakers.

looks bling though smile.gif

hee, hee, i think you need to give the alpine engineers a bit more credit for their design than that. rolleyes.gif
