Hello, i was just wondering wat is the average db score for ppl who enter autosalon or such events in the street b class. I want to know coz i would like to see were i stand. I havent bought my gear yet but am planning to get 2 DD1012 subs that is going to be powered by jaycar mono. I know this isnt that an expensive system but the db should be around 135-140, correct me if im wrong.
So wat do the ppl in autosalon or such get? I have read the thread about australian db records but thats a summary of top performers in each event, i would like to know wat do the ppl not mentioned get?

Thanks
APS
Well i dont know who gave you scores around 135 - 140 but if you do it right you should get more if you dont do it right you will get less.

Just cos you got DD subs doesnt mean automatically you will be doing 140.

Firstly what sort of car are they going into?

Scores are anywhere from 125 - 150db, where you wanna be is up to the way you set up your system.

I know its all upto the setup. The car its going in is a celica 90-93 model, which i also need to buy. In a month or so its all going to happen.
Wat things should i look out for wen installing. Im aware of having the right power cables, which i have and its 4awg. Also im aware that the box enclosures i build effect the results, which will be ported. And i know about sound deadening. Is there anything else to look out for?

Thanks

sorry double post

power cable should be dictated by the size of the amp(s) you are using.

anything around the 140 mark or above is well respected. we all have to start somewhere. my first spl comp i only managed 140 on the old mics which would have equated to a little over 130db.

the way you face/aim the subs. and what the box is going to be tuned too and your cars resonant frequency (think thats what its called)

Okay, first of all if ur getting the ST184 get a hatchback... i have a coupe at the moment and costing me dB i reckon.
i have the same year celica your after with 2 orion h2's and an e-audio which i have yet to meter (will do at autosalon)
but with a phd2 i ended up with 143 db.
if u got quesitons pm me...
with a kmart battery too
Pumped
In a Street B Setup i hit a 140.7 in Autosalon with a tiny bum battery and one amp at the time.

anything over 140 in Street b is respectable wink.gif
adam87
so then if im over 140 easily what kind of scores have been competitive at autosalon brisbane. i no ripped is from around brissy cause i saw him at jambo, so that means i wont get anywhere near first. so what would be top three at autosalon?

Wat is the best way to face the subs?
And wats the top 5 db scores in autosalon sydney roughly?

firing the subs/ports back or up is usually the best for street installs

here is the top 5 in B at the most recent SAS:
Street B
Place Competitor SPL Stats
1st Sam McWaters 145.1
2nd Angelo Bouras 143.3
3rd Larissa Franke 140.3
4th Mitchell Obrien 137.5
5th Zoilo Tarona 131.3

Why r the last 2 db scores so low? I like my chances.

Wats my cars resonant frequency, and therefore wat frequency do i tune it to and how do i go about doing it?
Is it like, if i have to tune to lets say 35, i put the low pass filter knob to 35Hz. Then set the amp settings as usual without changing frequency on low pass filter.

Thanks

In Brisbane if they choose to go, i know of about half a dozen people doing between 145db & 148db in St B. (Term Lab too)
Woob
i won the WA auto salon StB with 139.9, i was freakin annoyed too tongue.gif stupid 0.1dB
adam87
thats what scares me is the half a dozen in that range cause i dont think i can hit 148. ill just have to make sure im above that 145 range which shouldnt be to difficult.
are the people in that range on this forum? what gear are they running?

No set your low pass filter as high as possible or turn it of. To get max DB you should be playing a test tone at your car's resonant frequency so filter become irrelevant. However you may want to put you subsonic filter just below your boxes tuning frequencey incase you forget to re-set you system and accidentially start blasting low frequencey tones(below box tuning)/music.
gooki
You shoudl be prety competetive if you can get to 140db. And you should with that setup (seen a single dd1008 hit 139.x) so 2x 1012's should get you into the 140's with the right install.

Wat does the subsonic filter do? Also so this setup u explained is only done wen testing for db, and not wen listening to music?

i don't even know of half a dozen cars australia wide that does 145+ in B let alone in QLD.

last db drag i entered the astra in i was the only car in B. you will be lucky to find half a dozen street B cars lined up at brisbane autosalon. I hope I am wrong and there are heaps of cars, but if it's going to be like the last BAS, the numbers (car wise) was very low...

here are the classes for db drag racing:
Street A
Street B
Street C
Street Max 1-2
Street Max 3-4
Super Street NW 1-2
Super Street 1-2
Super Street 3-4
Super Street 5+
Extreme 1
Extreme 2
Extreme 3-4
Extreme 5+
Monster

13 record setting classes. Gold Coast Autosalon only had 15 entrants total... We need more cars competing, and new comers entering db drag racing. Yes, it may get expensive when you're aiming for world records, but for general fun, it does not cost an arm and a leg.
enzo
hey....im hopin xmas i'll be able to get into street A

runnin a Response Mono and a DD 2512

and yeh...hopin to be competitive lol......right box n stuff....jus see what car i end up with......but for fun...should be interesting.....cant wait

but yeh from the recent results....seems common to see StB gettin 140s i agree......145s....duno

stupid St A gettin higher scores than StB.....why is that?......an.....reckn id be in the running? (know its dependant on the car...but say a smaller sedan)

Ross Kerker, 145s, isnt up there for some reason, likely cause is on Termpro it doesnt show his class.

No. they would be doing those scores in StMax and Superstreet as most either have a box above window line, their box on the back seat, amps installed in the footwells or extra batteries (most have a combination of these illegalities)
SSS_Hoon
enzo yeah street a being louder the street b is one reason y i got outta it(and needed the cash for my us trip) although i considered myself very competitive in sta with my 145db and single dd 3512 sub.

mm i might just get back into yet not sure.

SSS_Hoon
Scuby_snax84
like i said i know of half a dozen people, didnt say they would be there. Most of the official events dont get the numbers because the entry fee is like $40/$50 where you can go to an autobarn event for $10 and get twice the cars. I have been to an event with about 20 st B cars.

I saw 2 cars just on Friday night, St B Competitiors.

146.8 dd9515 (only 1 kw)
145.9 2 x 12 RE

I also saw a van with 1 9915 and 2 fusion amps doing 147.8 with a tiny battery.
mind you they did have 14v
i lost about 1 db going from 14v to 12v, on that theory they are still high numbers.

Like ripped said: Its about having fun. I have never won an official event but i still really enjoy going.
BlackIce
I've seen everything from 117dB to 163dB at AutoSalon.
If you want to collect tropheys, put 6 subs in the car and go SS5+.
If you want to compete, go StA or StB.
adam87
thats all kewl im really looking forward to BAS. im entered & ill see you all there.
SSS_Hoon
adam i like ya av, even though i drive a nissan and it should be the other way around laugh.gif

as blackice said if you want to win trophies then goto a class that not many ppl enter, but if you like to compete and be competitve the the street classes are the way too go.

sub sonic filter is like a realy low high pass filter that stops the sub from over excrusion when played below the car/boxes tuning frequencey.
