Looking to buy an Astra SRi......
The RRP is 28990 for the manual one..... Almost only option i want is darker tint..... If i bought one brand new, i'd not wanna pay more than 30k including stamp duty and dealer delivery and rego (greenslip being extra is fine).... How much have people talked off dealers before? So far, stamp duty - 869 - rego 275 - Dealer del - 1695 (!).... Reckon i'd be able to talk off about 2-3k? i am looking to buy sept/oct
Anyone know of anyone?

When you are ready to buy, walk in get the car for like 28 or 29k driveaway maximum...if you are ready to buy and they know it they will usually cut a great deal. Even better if you have tried to get a few quotes beforehand to test the waters

You should be able to get what you want for under 30K easy. I recently bought a Mazda SP20 and saved a little over 4K altogether. This was with a lot of shopping around and persistence. In the end, I went back to the dealer who I liked the most and we managed to work something out.

i got $1400 knocked off the 'lowest price' plus new front window, tyres, wheel alignment and detail ontop of that when i bought the bimmer. when buying my nan's barina, talked the salesman down $3200 from the advertised sale price (brand new car), plus new floor mats and headlight protectors. then buying mum's pulsar (though this one was harder, stingey nissan dealers, lol) i talked him down ~$1100 off the sticker price, plus floormats, weather shield (not my idea that one), and a tow bar, plus had them order the first set of genuine fog lights into the country and fit it too....hey im pushy i guess

Its not how much you are saving, its more how much the dealer is willing to rip you off
Go in with the attitude that your going to buy it that day, shop around and then you will have an idea how low they are willing to go. Then finally have a maximum figure in your head, then when it comes to neg, make sure you dont give in, tell them your willing to walk away. A friend of mine did that and the salesman was running after him to get the sale hahaha.

A guy here at work talked a Honda dealer down about $6000 or so off the dealer's first quote on a Honda Civic ($29000 down to $23000 with the features he wanted). Of course, it took about a day and a half of phone calls and haggling (on company time of course!) to get that, but it was a crack up to listen to.
Also though, through the company I work for, I am eligible for fleet discount (which is up to each car maker's discretion - and as I found out Subaru choose to offer NONE!), but a colleague got $14000 (yes that is 3 zero's on the end of that 14) off a $65000 Prado just for mentioning fleet discount - so I wonder what you could normally haggle off it anyway?

my cd model was 23990 plus onroads. i got it for 24500 with abs and traction control. you sould be able to pick up the sri for 27K, depends how desperate they are, and they should be pretty desperate now cos of the end of finacial year.

hey i was in the same situation as u a while back and had no idea how to shop for new car for my sis
i had many helpful replies from CAA and finally got one at an alrite price
http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/ubbcgi/ul...ic;f=6;t=005851always remember after u to leave ur contacts to the saleperson after u leave when they reject ur offer. i forgot to leave mine at a particular dealer and when i returned few days later they told me they decided to gimme for the price i wanted but i was too quick out the door. i was so stupid though and was so tired i actually bought the car at slightly higher price. i also had other salepeople ring me long after i already bought the car already askin if i still lookin, maybe want to do me a deal.
when approach by a saleperson, always say u will buy strightaway if the price is right otherwise they wont talk to u.
first few dealers i visit was long and boring waiting for saleperson to keep goin in and out askin manager and all. after i got a decent quote, it was fast, i just walk into dealer ask for slightly lower price, they say no i ask if they sure and leave
right now at end of financial yr should be easier, was lookin at 1.8L 323s and dealer already wanting to sell them with 15", sport pak, onroad without even bargaining
next time i buy a car no tint and alarm for me. not dark enough and had some crappy century base model alarm, rather get them aftermarket stuff and these were worth 1000$ option. should get mats as they usually design to fit the model car
neway good luck with the buy

Cool cheers for that guys!
Pity i'm NOT buying tomorrow (i wish!) but the astra already has a loom and everything for the alarm, all they do is plug it in! So i might go that option..... Darker tinting is a must..... however, there's not much you can get as "options" on teh SRi, it has everything already
Time for shopping

when it comes to 'options' there are a HUGE rip off my g/f works for holden and sell the aftermarket. They get tint for $150-180 and flog it for $450, alarms cost $250 sell for $700.
everything is neg. so go for it, dont know how much mark up is on the cars tho.

And don't get paint protection! That has to be the biggest rip off as well!
A friend at a dealer said you are better off buying a good quality wax and saving yourself $500!

Did you find that the salesman werent as pushy, a bit more friendly at the BMW dealership? I found that when i went there, they just wanted to answer questions and would leave you alone instead of in your face, and were also being open minded about other cars. When i went to the subaru dealership, holy $hit, talk about pushy.

it all depends how badly the salesman wants to make a sale as to how much they will knock off. here if you work at the holden factory you get 30% off from a holden dealer. my mate got a lancer from $24000 to $19000. the salesman kept going on about certain features my mate says i dont really like this and that and other yard said this much and the salesman kept dropping the price.
